Mokhira Guest House

The room though small was extremely clean and comfortable. The bathroom was attached and clean. Since we went in December when it was very cold, the hot water was available 24/7 and the heating worked perfectly. The bed linen and towel were spic and span. The breakfast though basic and not what is shown in the pictures on the listing, was filling and on time. We used to get some salami and the lady used to fry it for us without any extra charge. Since my mother is old, when we'd come back from the day tour, if we asked she gave us tea or coffee. We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights and on the last day we were to leave, she let us leave our luggage at the property for the day. We had one laundry free and for one load paid 5 USD. The wifi was good as well. After the money snafu was over, the lady was rather friendly with us. The property was very clean and had multiple cctc cameras outside.

The room was unlocked all 5 days because the owner of the property said other guest had lost the keys. This was the first time I experienced this, so we took it on faith that our things will be safe. There were cameras on the property, but still. The curtains in the room are transparent , so I guess we gave anyone looking in a good show lol. Biggest issue was that the listing said no cash is accepted but when we checked in around 2.30 am the lady said she wanted cash.i offered to pay by card but was refused. I told her ill have to withdraw cash and will pay her when I come back in the evening and even showed her the listing where it said no cash accepted. She agreed to me paying in the evening ( we used Google translator constantly) but I guess something got lost in translation. I can accept everything but on the last day my 65 year old mother and 7 year old kid came back and waited an hour at the property before we took the train to Bukhara, and it was almost 2 degrees and lady instead of showing my mum some empathy and allowing her to sit inside, said she can't open the room because she had cleaned it for the next guests. No body provides a service for free but if we show a little bit of empathy especially to senior citizens and children even if they are guests who've checked out, it doesn't cost much. The cold weather and sitting outside gave my mum a cold and a headache which was contrary to all the hospitality shown by other people in Uzbekistan. Also the property is a 10 minute walk to Registan and was a chore for the Yandex guy to locate when we checked in at 2.30 am. The reason why I titled this review take it with a pinch of salt- as a woman I understand that the guesthouse owner was going through some personal troubles but that doesn't exclude lack of empathy towards someone old enough to be the owners mum.

The accommodation was great. It was very tidy and facilities looked new. I also liked the fact that the location was close to the registrant, maybe a 15-minute walk. The hard-working lady who runs this guest house on her own was very accommodating, allowing us to book in around 7am. This was the first time I chose to get a taxi because of the early hr of our arrival and the distance from the train station. He found the guest house without difficulty , just ask Google maps. On day 2, we were offered a free upgrade to a slightly bigger room that had a sofa and table at no extra cost. The bed was firm which might not suit everyone, This is an easy fix, I would suggest getting a mattress topper, which would also serve as a mattress protector.

In response to the previous person who left a bad review. He arrived during our stay. He presented as confused and was verbally and physically aggressive. He was shouting and smashed his door window at 630 in the morning before he left with his suitcase. I was concerned for the welfare of this lady to the extent that when he returned a few minutes later, it was me that answered the door. If this gentleman is unwell as my partner and I suspect, then I hope this gentleman gets the support he needs.
