Umarato Villa Sumba

It takes about 1.5 hour from the nearest airport. In a secluded area. But when we arrive, we are greeted with such amazing view! Nice property, secluded and tranquil. We are facilitated with full service, and our children comfort is well taken care off. They are super happy because they can harvested their own vegetable to table. They are building new properties, single unit villas with their own private pools and facilities. Perfect for future romantic escape. Not to forget to mention their exceptional restaurant, Umanga'a. We have a top notch dinning experience celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. We would love to going back to Umarato in our future holiday.

The location is stunning, on a ridge with a spectacular view of the ocean, however there is absolutely NOTHING nearby, so this needs to be kept in mind when booking. The villa, whilst marketed as a hotel, is actually more like a private residence with rooms that can be booked individually. This makes for a somewhat uncomfortable experience when sharing the facilities with other guests. Privacy in all of the available rooms is compromised if other guests are in residence. The staff, whilst clearly all well intentioned and hard working, are poorly trained, and incapable of delivering service levels appropriate to the price point. With an ever increasing number of properties on Sumba, Umarato Villas will need to reconsider their offer in order to meet guests expectations. The food and beverage offer was poor at best.

Extremely limited, overpriced wine list. No cocktails available, only purchase of whole bottles of alcohol (limited selection) and no mixers available even if you did decide to pay the extortionate prices by the bottle. Fine if you were advised of this prior to arrival, but we were not.

What makes Umarato Villa really stand out is that it offers this luxury at a price that won’t break the bank. Compared to other resorts in the area, it’s surprisingly affordable, yet you get the same, if not better, experience. And the view? It’s worth a million dollars. Whether you’re by the pool, in the hammock, or just hanging out in the villa, you’re surrounded by the beauty of Sumba. The rolling hills, the wide-open sky, and the distant ocean all come together to create a truly unforgettable scene.

Staying at The Rua Room in Umarato Villa was an experience straight out of a dream. The moment I stepped onto the balcony, I was greeted by a breathtaking ocean view that stretched as far as the eye could see. The sound of waves crashing against the shore created the perfect soundtrack to accompany the stunning vista. But the real gem of this room was the outdoor bathtub nestled amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings. Immersing myself in warm water while surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature was an experience like no other. It was a moment of pure serenity and relaxation, allowing me to unwind and truly connect with the environment. The attention to detail in The Rua Room was impeccable, from the luxurious furnishings to the thoughtful amenities provided. Every aspect of my stay was carefully curated to ensure maximum comfort and enjoyment.

Overall, my time at The Rua Room was nothing short of magical. It's the perfect retreat for anyone seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a touch of luxury. I can't wait to return and experience its beauty all over again.The only downside? It felt not long enough 😄

Very beautiful view. The food is so yummy. The infinity pool is so awesome.
