Balconi san Giorgio

Breakfast downstairs was simple but lovely. Staff very friendly. In the shared coffee room there was no milk, coffee machine didn't work very well.

Positives: Location wise it is in the heart of the little town square, close to both the famous villas (2 mins walk from Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi). There isn’t much else in the square, a few restaurants, cafe, gelato shop, and pharmacy. The ferry wharf is also not far so you can easily catch a ferry to Bellagio or Menaggio. The room is spacious with a decent sized bed. Ammenities were provided, shampoo, soap, towels, and in the common space there is tea and coffee.

Negatives: No aircon, lighting in the bedroom and bath room was dim, shower was quite small and the drain took a while to drain water. Due to the location of the B&B being next to a church, the bell rung half hourly. The 7AM bell was the longest and loudest, it woke us up on the first night. The next night, I wore ear plugs and the night after, noise cancelling headphones.

Location was perfect! Our little balcony overlooked the main square in Varenna, the clock tower/church and the mountains. Super close to everything, with shops and restaurants on your doorstep! And, our host was helpful and quick to reply.

'Breakfast included' is false advertising - it was just a pack of shop-bought brioche slices, which was quite disappointing.

Great location!

Located on the main piazza of Varenna. Our apartment did not face the piazza, so was completely quiet at night.

The property was advertised as breakfast included. However, breakfast consisted only of a brioche and coffee/tea. We were expecting something more.

Host was available by WhatsApp but we never saw him. Worked out ok and he answered our questions when we had one. WiFi was basically non existent, very poor signal, but we managed. Room was clean and nice, and the bonus room was nice to have. We asked the cleaning person for softer pillows, and she was very helpful. Bathroom area was large with good counter space and storage which you often don’t get in Italy. Shower worked, but all of the buttons for extra features did not work. There was an area for making coffee, but we didn’t use it. Breakfast in the bar downstairs was really nice. Excellent cappuccino and brioche. We knew there was no AC, and the fan helped, and weather was not really hot.
