First time staying at Hakuba Alpine Hotel, and it definitely won’t be our last. This will absolutely be our go-to place whenever we’re back in Hakuba. The hotel is owned by a wonderful gentleman whose family has run it for over 100 years, and you can really feel the care and pride in the way it’s operated. He was incredibly accommodating and even helped us book a taxi to the station on our last day when it was early and too icy to walk. The location is fantastic — most things are within walking distance, including Happo-One Ski Resort, plenty of great restaurants, Lawson’s, the bus terminal, and more dining options nearby. Breakfast was generous and kept us full for hours, and the onsen was the perfect way to relax after a long day on the slopes. We stayed in a tatami room — the mattress was a little thin, but it was all part of the experience and we made do. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would happily return again. Highly recommend.

"Was a great place to stay, super convenient location."

7.0

Location was amazing, and the onsen was very slow, so I had the whole place to myself. Which was very nice. It is a more or a traditional style room, but loved that there was hot water ready for tea when we walked in.

The indoor onsen was absolutely scalding hot. Someone had left the hot water running so it was way hotter than it should have been. The outdoor one was a little less intense. Also it was a little tricky bringing our bags (snowboard bags) to the room as there was some stairs that you had to go down and then up even though our room was on the main floor.

"Good"

7.0

Good attentive staff, probably just the manager running everything at the time I went (end of the snow season). It is the only hotel in Japan that let us check in early. Location is not the closest to the slopes, 10mins to the ski jump lifts and 15mins to the gonadal (wearing snowboard boots), but is closest to (what seems to be) the only convenience store (Lawson). Storage rooms for skis, snowboards, and boots. Also a work bench with tools. Has an onsite onsen (small), opens 4pm to 9am (overnight). A communal microwave, a powerful flatbed one. A few small communal areas outside of the rooms. Decent sized room (up to 4 people, 2x single beds and a bunk bed style cove. A key operated safe in the room. Cleaned every 2 days.

The hotel is definitely showing its age but very well kept. The pillows need replacing (smelt of old hair and facial oil) the only (Japanese) hotel I've come across with down pillows and not the bean bag style pillows. Beds are the American style, a bed sheet then a duvet (that doesn't seem to have been deep cleaned in a while). Some of the furniture are old but mostly well kept.
