Hakuba Alpine Hotel

A ryokan with lots of old timber, high ceilings and great views. Comfortable, with a thoughtful layout and an excellent onsen (both indoor and outdoor). Friendly and laidback atmosphere. Delicious breakfast. Great location with easy access to the Bus Terminal and a number of bus stops making getting around Hakuba Valley very easy. Good ski storage area. This is our third time staying here and will be back next season!

The room size is massive and the staff very friendly. Having a private bath as well as access to an onsen for all guests is pretty handy after spending hours on the ski slope.

The futon/tatami mat can be a little uncomfortable during the night and a lack of a seat with a back rest can make sitting for long periods a bit uncomfortable. However these are only very very minor dislikes and probably more to do with what we're used to at home. Definitely won't stop me from coming back

I booked this hotel because it is in walking distance to the HAKUBA bus terminal. And I wanted to experience a slice of Japanese culture and that is exactly what I got. The owners were super friendly and made an amazing Japanese style breakfast each morning.We were also able to get a dinner by request but that is not a given so you will have to ask if it’s possible. Also this hotel has onsens in house and free for guests staying there, great after a days skiing

We chose the Japanese style tatami futons in the room, (western style beds are also available). But found them a bit uncomfortable/ not what I’m used too, but I’m glad I did because I wanted the full experience.

Hotel had an old Japanese vibe with beautiful wood architecture. Traditional rooms with tatami and futon. Onsen! The breakfast was very well balanced meals and different meals were prepared for each morning.

A Japanese home away from home. The owners have created a welcoming, homely, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in Japanese style hotel. They serve a different breakfast every day, with many Japanese elements, served at the table with a smile by the owner. Everything is presented with great care, and so many interesting little condiments and pickles. The rooms are spotless, with clean linen every second day. Everything is provided - toiletries, kimonos for the in house private onsen, slippers etc. Beds were firm but comfortable. Our room had a lounge and also a little table and chairs in the generous sized space. Plenty of hanging space too. The ski storage area was large and dried everything well overnight. The hotel itself is conveniently located a few minute's walk from restaurants, Lawsons, and the bus station. They have a microwave for guests to use, so we picked up dinner a couple of times from Lawsons. We would recommend this place to anyone - it was excellent!

It would be great if they opened for dinner, as it's nice to come back from skiing, relax in the onsen, then not have to go out in the cold again. A lot of the hotels have shuttle buses, which would be a good addition to this hotel's excellent service.

Service… the owner is a super nice gentleman. He helped us with taxis and keeping our luggage after skiing the last day. Onsen on-site is perfect after the slopes.

What a gem! Great location, charming Japanese style rooms, lovely outdoor onsen, and very kind host. Incredible value for the cost. We were in Hakuba for 9 days and only stayed here our final night because we booked late, but we plan to book early to stay here next year.
