Authentic City Stay

Lots of good stuff about this apartment but one or two things that, while they didn't especially bother me, might bother some people. First things first: I needed to stay longer in Budapest than originally planned and I extended my stay here rather than relocate. Cost-wise, it's a good deal. Inside the apartment is really interesting with the paintings and decor, it was spotlessly clean, and the bed was really comfy. Because it's on the inner, courtyard side of an apartment block its really quiet. So a good night's sleep. Also there is a washing machine which is useful for longer stays. Wifi was glitch-free and owner replied to messages in a good amount of time. The Josefvaros area outside is nice and lively with interesting shops and bars and supermarkets, as well as two metro stations within 5 mins walk. There is also a pretty decent curry house in the ground floor of the next building.

However... in between the nice apartment inside and the lovely area outside is the building entrance, which might put some people off. There's an ancient lift (one day it had a notice on in Hungarian, no idea what it said but I voted for the stairs) or two flights of stairs with no functioning lights above the first landing. It wasn't pitch black but yeah... make sure you have a torch! Personally I didn't feel unsafe but if you were very nervous or clumsy or short-sighted you would not want to tangle with the unlit stairs. I would have given this place a 9 if it wasn't for the entrance hall issues.
