CHWe had 2 bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The view was sensationell from our room as well as from the restaurant. The food was very nice and there is a big variety of different food for a decent price. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The road to the lodge is in perfect shape, and the Safari Park is quite close.
FRAkagera Rhino Lodge is a great place to stay near Akagera Park—only 15 minutes away by car. The room was very cosy, with an amazing view of the lake! The restaurant is nice, the food is good, and you can also order a picnic to take with you on safari in the park. The staff is really friendly and attentive. There's hot water in the shower, and the Wi-Fi is decent. I 100% recommend this place for its excellent value for money.
Nothing: it was perfect!
SARooms to the bottom of the property were pretty good especially the balcony and platform above the actual bedroom - good for seeing the stars
The Team there were all disorganised - especially when ordering food for dinner or lunch - delivery of the meals too more than one hour at one point! the rooms to the top of the property are close to 750m uphill from the Reception
USThe rooms were comfortable, food was great, staff were friendly and helpful. View is absolutely wonderful. Wasn't able to use the pool but it looked great.
The curtains just barely covered the windows, I didn't feel like anyone could see in or anything, but I would have preferred a bit more curtain. A fan would have also been nice.
ITThe view is amazing, the room is big and comfortable, everything is clean, the food is good and the staff is nice. Be aware that the rooms are far from the restaurant, this could be a problem for someone with reduced mobility.
The checkout could be later.
CAThe service was impeccable. The rooms were rustic but beautiful. High end glamping. Food was delicious. To date, the most unique place I have stayed. Will book again on subsequent trips to Rwanda.
I found the lighting on the pathways to each lodge to be insufficient.
NZRhino Lodge is located with breathtaking views over Akagera and only a short drive from the main gate. The rooms are beautiful and everything is very well maintained. I have never experienced such exquisit staff & such a high attention to detail in the way they treat you and try to make your stay memorable. While you’re having dinner they prepare your room (turning on the exterior lights, drawing the curtains). One day when it rained heavily I found an umbrella ready at my doorstep so I wouldn’t get wet on my way to get breakfast. Everybody is always interested to have a short chat and they genuinely want you to feel good. All in all great hospitality! The food in the restaurant is also tasty, well made and very reasonably priced. You have to choose your breakfast, lunch & dinner options ahead of time but there’s no set time to take your meals - you can arrange for whichever time you like and the chefs will cook for you. You can also book all sort of activities (including game drives) with the reception.
I did get into a slight misunderstanding in terms of price rates by booking my game drive ahead of time, which was also partly my fault. They provided me with a great guide, Danny, who took me on a full day which was a really nice and memorable experience I highly recommend. I asked ahead of time and they said it‘s going to be 280$ for a car with driver/guide as well as the entrance fee for the vehicle. At the park reception I did have to pay an additional 100$ entrance fee as well as 10$ for the car, making the total cost rise up to 390$. It did come as some sort of a surprise since I didn’t do proper research and thought the 280$ would cover everything - apparently you pay entrance for the car (10$) as well as per person (100$) in addition to whatever driver/guide + vehicle cost you from the organisers (in my case 280$). Just be mindful and do your research when booking a game drive! I still feel like I paid double for the vehicle entrance though, which is a bummer. Also I think it would be much nicer to connect people and make it possible to share the ride & costs whenever possible. After all it doesn’t make much sense having cars with a single person going round if there’s available space elsewhere. I was solo which made it all the more expensive of course and my enquiries about whether other cars would go to the park were politely declined. Again, the staff at Rhino is not much to blame for these things, I do understand the business side of things and do not expect them to act in ways which potentially reduce revenue. I would just advise against booking ahead and trying to connect with others when you’re there. And inform yourself about all the rates ahead of time!
MWVery clean and comfortable. Amazing staff that are ready to help you with anything and great food.
Very long walk to our cottage (300+m), not for physically limited people
ROThe view it is amazing, the tents are very good organized and the staff is very nice, it was a wonderful experience.
