The Sanduk Homestay

We stayed at Sanduk 2 (70m from Sanduk 1). It’s a new hotel style room. We got offered this room with a private bathroom when we turned up and it was really nice. Staff are really lovely and helpful! We hired a scooter from them for 100k per day. Breakfast was good, and Ibra was helpful with organising a guide and bus tickets to Makassar.

We are absolutely delighted with our experience. Ibra is an exceptional host. Even though we arrived late on our first day, he personally welcomed us and went above and beyond by upgrading us—not just to another room, but to a different hotel run by his sister, which was also wonderful. She was just as kind and welcoming. From the very beginning, the treatment we received was incredible. They paid attention to every detail: taking the time to answer all our questions, giving helpful suggestions, assisting us in finding accommodation in other cities, and advising us on transportation options. They even surprised us with thoughtful gestures, like bringing us fruit for our long bus journey on the day we left. The breakfast was amazing, with the option to choose between Asian, continental, or European styles. The rooms were clean, and the atmosphere was very peaceful. In the hotel where we stayed (his sister’s), the rooms also had a private bathroom and a balcony, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We truly couldn’t be happier with our stay.

Ibra es un gran anfitrión, nos conseguía todo lo que necesitábamos (guía, moto de alquiler, traslados, etc) y nos proporcionó mucha información. Habitaciones grandes y camas cómodas. El baño solo se compartía entre 2 habitaciones y siempre estaba muy limpio y con papel del WC. Si volvemos por allí repetiremos y sin duda, un lugar para aconsejar a amigos.

Quizás el desayuno no era muy acorde a nuestros gustos, pero estoy segura de que si se lo hubiésemos dicho a Ibra, nos habría hecho algún cambio, pero no quisimos molestar.

Breakfast was a little odd, but tasty. The owner needs to make more of the fact that there is a heritage site a 5 minute walk away...with classic Torajan houses, caves and lots of grave sites! Really worth a visit. He is also able to organise guides and drivers, though we felt paying for both a guide and separate driver, who then drove the owner's car, felt a little exploitative. He very kindly arranged pick up and early check in from the Makassar night bus, which we really appreciated. Overall a great stay and a good base for exploring this super interesting region.

Noise from the road was quite loud. Also piped music in the common and breakfast areas is really dated.

What a Lovely experience we had on Sanduk !!! Arrived with the night bus at 5:30am from Makassar and were welcomed by Ibra, our host, who made ourselves comfortable, prepared great breakfast, booked a guide and a car for the day ahead. Ibra was THE Highlight of our stay, always here to help/guide/recommend, but never intrusive. We felt at home, and even better! Location was ideal for us, not too central, and great start place for trekking or site visits. Too notch ! Thx Ibra
