The Native Weligama

Not recommended at all. It was really difficult to find the location. No route maps or the name boards were projected. We tried to contact over the phone and the number was not reachable. With the help of the tuk tuk driver, we waited for sometime. And then one helper arrived to the scene, where went and called the owner. But the place was quite strange and from the beginning we didnt feel comfortable. The owner was not aware about our arrival. When he met us, he is asking from which platform the booking had done. We tried to cancel the booking but as it was the last minute, the amount was not refundable. We were forced to check in. The owner made us wait like around 40 minutes in the sit out of the room as we was arranging and cleaning the room.It was too hot outside as well and it was quite disappointing. We didn't feel safe at all in this property as we only girls were staying. The owner and one helper was only there. We took the shower and left for sight seeing. Once our day trip is over, we didnt feel like going back to the property, was feeling unsafe. Once we reach there around 10pm, the property gate was closed. Everything happening was quite strange and we decided to check out rather that to stay in an unpleasant place. One we climbed the stairs we could see the owner was taking a walk in the living room next to our room. The other rooms were empty. We didnt feel comfortable. We suddenly paid the amount and checked out from there. And booked another place for our stay that night. We lost am amount of 6000 to 7000 lkr. We just checked in for a shower, not even stay in the night and paid the whole amount. Very unsatisfied and fearful experience.

The place is very far away from the main beach despite being recommended by booking, and not cheap. Also, the owner claims to teach surfing lessons and sell surfing classes for pretty expensive price, but later on the person who turned up was not the owner. The instructors were flakey, never turned up and the owner never refunded the money I called, messaged multiple times and no response on the day of checkout. He later on messaged claiming he would try to refund and I gave him 2 months, never responded again It’s not about the amount of money but more leaving a bad place in the mouth when I left Sri Lanka

Lovely size room, comfortable bed & good bathroom, although shower was either cold or boiling. Was nice to have a clothes rail & hangers. Balcony overlooking wooded area behind main road. Monkeys often present & entertaining to watch. Good size tasty breakfast & was great to have a kitchen & fridge available.

Would have been nice to have had a bench in the room vs bags & clothes on the floor. Location is a little bit further out from main road, we did know when booking & was fine for 2 of us walking back at night, but wouldn’t have wanted to do alone.

We had a good stay at the Native Weligama. Lovingly decorated and the communication with the owners was very good. We were able to check in at 6:00 am without any problems or extra charge. Many thanks for that. We enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast was served every morning in the blazing sun. We and other guests had to move the tables ourselves every day to the shade .Parasols or something would make breakfast more pleasant for someone who is not yet used to the intense heat.

The guesthouse overall is very nice. Hot water is present, but little pressure. Washing machine was out of service. Breakfast is good. It would be nice to have more light in room.
