"Perfect & Memorable."

What a question 'What did you like?'...... We loved everything about our stay there. We arrived around 5pm and Fiona showed us our room which was lovely and clean. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to move in the morning, but I'm glad I did. Breakfast was delicious, tasty and plentiful. Perfect poached eggs which Fiona was happy to share how she did them (thank you Fiona). We certainly had full bellies afterwards. We had an evening meal, which didn't disappoint. The fish & chips is so worth a try if you stay here. Massive fish with batter so crunchy and such tasty crispy chips. Real chips peeled and cut by Fiona herself (I know this as she was in the middle of peeling spuds when we arrived). The bar is a lovely treat as there are no other pubs within walking distance (and why would you want to?). It's only small with optics and cans of beer/lager/soft drinks in a fridge, but very quaint and pleasant. We had a wonderful night there and got to know Fiona quite well. Such a pleasant and accomodating lady whose company we were pleased to be in. I'm assuming that it's mainly people booking here for one night as they are getting the P&O or Stenna ferries the following day (which was the reason for our stay), and that creates a lot of work as the beds have to be stripped and remade, bedding and towels to be laundered everyday. And still Fiona welcomes guests with a smile. The Merchants House is a cosy, oldy worldy, wonderful place to stay, but Fiona makes it a memorable stay. Thank you Fiona & your lady helper (sorry but I forget your name). Loved our one night stay x

Had to miss breakfast due to ferry time. Received a very adequate bag of goodies to take onboard ferry instead.

Nothing to dislike.
