Higashi Kumamoto Business Center

This is a unique hotel that somewhat resembles a castle. We thought it was a great value for the price, and the rooms are huge, especially by Japan's standards. Each room includes a private garage with a door, and you can enter the room through the garage. You can also enter it upstairs from the hotel hallway. It's basically an apartment-style room, with a small kitchen, a private bath that looks out in to a beautiful zen setting with camellia plants and water basins; there is a nice, spacious living room with a giant window that looks out in to a large private back yard area. The bedroom is huge, with a comfortable bed and great lighting. The staff were very, very nice.

I'm sure they are conserving heat, but the room was very cold when we entered. I can't really fault them for this, but it took a while to heat the room up. We also couldn't figure out the locks. The two main entrances, from the hallway and the garage had deadbolts, but the key we were given didn't work on them. I'm sure there is a solution for this, but we didn't find it. Regardless, it felt very safe and secure.

Room size is good. Staff are very nice. They gave us bunch of Kumamoto snacks when we arrived. Also they waited for us when we arrived late at night.

It’s a bit out of the way from Kumamoto City. You will need a car to stay here to make it worth your while.
