Avoid – Full £200 Deposit Taken, Misleading Listing, and Dodgy Practices I booked this property through Booking.com expecting a simple, professional experience — instead, I was left completely disappointed and out of pocket. After booking, I was told to pay a £200 security deposit via a third-party platform, not through Booking.com. They also offered a £47 non-refundable alternative to avoid the deposit altogether — which instantly felt suspicious. A proper host should use the platform’s secure system, not off-platform arrangements that remove guest protections. Despite leaving the apartment spotless, they deducted the entire £200 deposit, claiming wear-and-tear issues like a loose fridge seal and a cheap dresser. These were clearly pre-existing, yet no timestamped evidence was provided to prove otherwise. The listing also promised a cot would be provided, yet none was, and I had to buy one myself during the stay – an added cost and inconvenience when travelling with a child. To make things worse, I had to collect and return the keys from a location half a mile away, which was never made clear prior to arrival. Looking back, I’ve since seen others have had similar issues – I just didn’t think to check reviews beforehand. I urge future guests to read the reviews carefully before booking. I’ve reported this to Booking.com and will continue to push for accountability

Shower in main bedroom leaks from the bath screen shower and wets the floor. No window coverings ( curtains/blinds) in main bedroom which means there is no way of shutting out the light and no privacy from people using the park or walk way. No bedroom tv which I would expect in a luxury apartment. Walk to fetch and return the key is approx 20 mins each way which is not acceptable if you have mobility problems. This should be mentioned before booking and paying which would give the option to choose different accommodation or perhaps the shop around the corner could do the key service for you.

Blinds missing in certain areas and were blinds were in place let a lot of light through Was made to pick keys up from a shop which was 30mins walk away. When we got there, the code didn’t work to collect the keys, had to wait around for 20 minutes before being told the cleaner had them at the apartment. Wasted time out of the day and cost Uber fares

Key collection. The 20 mins walk to pick the key up was fine but the collection code was a dud. Had to call admin who gave us two other codes before it worked. We got back to the apartment. The instructions said one apartment and the key said another. Took a while to get found but overall was great.

GBI will once I get my 200£ deposit refund back, which was not on the policy before booking it. watch this space..... Still wanna my 200£ deposit back. And booking.com are doing nothing about it. Police are investigating it now. DO NOT BOOK THIS APARTMENT!!!

GBThe apartment was modern and spacious, good location from the train station and shops but had a few issues.
On the day we were arriving in Manchester we received at text confirming we would have to pay an additional £200 which was refundable for any damage to the property, this should of been made clear when booking the apartment, not on the day of arrival, also we had to collect the key a mile away from the apartment in the opposite direction, this also should be in the booking details, this was a problem as we were with elderly relatives. The blind in the master bedroom was missing which was a problem getting change and for sleeping. The shower door was loose in both bathrooms so water was dripping all over the floor. We only had 3 mugs even though we had booked for 4 people and they was a smell in the corridor outside the apartment.
