MANGO LODGE

Mango Lodge is an easy stay for any backpacker. If you are happy to disconnect during the day and go explore rather than staying in your room looking for the wi-fi signal, this is definitely the place for you! There is no electricity until 19:30 due to the island of Bubaque not having any cables on premises; everything is powered by generators running on gasoline, and the staff makes sure to let you know that upon arrival, which helps manage expectations! I loved the garden, very well taken care of! The rooms are basic but super fresh due to their location, the bed is comfy, and the bedsheets were clean. Lovely decorations with natural flowers from the garden upon arrival. Breakfast can improve, but if you only like to have a coffee and some fruits for 2000 CFA, you can get a good value, and if you add 2000 more, you can get an omelette treat as well, not too bad for being in the middle of nowhere. I was happy to go on some excursions organised by the team between Mango and Cajou Lodge, but you must ask upon arrival or head straight to Cajou to ask what is happening in the upcoming days. Would definitely recommend it as a relaxing, cheap stay in Bijagos if you are on a budget! ps: water pressure is not great and so is the overall bathroom, but hey, we are in west Africa on an island, so already having a private bathroom is a luxury, I must recognise that.

Close to the port area. Room reasonably clean. The lodge itself has a good atmosphere around it. Bathroom reasonably clean and there is a fan in the room, though no AC.

Doesn't happen really with me, but I chose to turn away shortly after arrival. No trace of my reservation on arrival. Through the site, I chose to pay a price which included both breakfast AND dinner - but when I arrived, it turned out, there is no food available at all. Arriving after a long day, exhausted, hot and hungry, expecting a meal (as specified in the booking) and comfort and at least drinking water - none of these were available. On arrival, there was no electricity for a period until I asked it for it to be fixed. Went out for an evening meal at another place and chose to stay there.

The common area and the vibes

The room lights didn't work at all and the fan was constantly disconnected due to lack of electricity. Claustrophobic and dark room. Did not have any wifi in 3 days although they were lying to us stating that someone would fix it. They don't have absolutely anything on the enormous menu that they advertise outside. Not even rice sometimes. We understand that Bubaque is an island very far from everything, but for the elevated price you pay, you don't get essential things.
