Milkwood Country House

Quite, relaxing location. Warm and inviting hosts. Well worth revisiting.

Breakfast was not included in the deal, but we found the accommodation and position of the property perfect. Peaceful and quiet, farm-like with horses, a very vocal donkey and very friendly dogs. However, it was only a few minutes away from shops and about 10 - 15 minutes to the waterfront with many shops and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Milkwood.

The cottage was spacious with a large kitchen with all necessary appliances (including a washing machine - a boon when on an extended holiday). For the evenings, after a busy day out and about, we had access to Netflix on the cottage telly. The location is great: very near Sardinia Bay Beach, Apron Strings restaurant and Grass Roof restaurant & deli. The Mountain View SuperSpar, a garage and other shops are also conveniently close by. As animal lovers, we thoroughly enjoyed sharing our space with two horses, a donkey, a calf, numerous dogs, cats and even a tortoise! The German hosts were very friendly and helpful. They operate an artisanal bakery - I highly recommend their delicious products. Because of the weather, we did not make use of the lovely swimming pool and braai facilities.

I feel that there is a lack of attention to detail for guests: 1) We did not have hot water for our first night, as the gas bottle was empty. The hosts were most apologetic and replaced the bottle the next day. 2) There were no candles / torches available in the unit for the inevitable load-shedding. 3) Some of the cutlery / utensils in the kitchen are not up to scratch (e.g. broken tin opener / blunt vegetable knives) 4) The bedroom curtains are tied to the rods with string, making opening & closing them a tad difficult. 5) We would have liked the unit to be serviced at least once during our 7-day stay. We ran out of toilet paper and had to buy cleaning materials (Toilet Duck / Handy Andy) to scrub the toilet and clean the sink. The towels were never changed during the week. There was no mop to clean the kitchen floor.

Loved the spaciousness, the amenities, the lighting, streaming services and full kitchen. Relaxed atmosphere and comfy quiet stay.

Loved the horses but flies were quite a lot in the guest house. Just a small note to owner, the shower does not stay hot, it goes cold after a few minutes.
