Nothing - rude barbarian host who swears guests

Do not book at this property – the German host has no scruples or human decency in customer service. He hates South Africans and clearly displayed this in how he communicates with his guests. My husband and I landed in Port Elizabeth on 5th July 2024, about 10min late. At the time I made the reservation at Milkwood Country House I requested for a late check in around 7h15pm which was accepted via email. When I realized we were going to arrive about 7h20pm I did the decent thing and contacted the host but there was no answer. I sent a message on booking.com requesting for few minutes later about 7h20pm arrival. I called the host again when I was leaving the airport and he, Mr Ebel, rudely answered the phone stating the lady he pays to wait for his guests will leave at 7h21 not later. So I had to be there on dot 7h20pm. This immediately I found to be so rude and no where close to being hospitable. We fortunately arrived at the gate at 7h18pm and the gate opened and we met a middle-aged German woman. The lady immediately told us in the little English she knew that there was no lights , due to electrical problem earlier in the day , and she has no idea when the lights will come back.Furthermore, she admitted there was a water issue ‘only trickle’ from the tap. We were in shock as we were booked for the weekend for a wedding and there was no way we were staying in a place we paid about R1700 for no water or lights! Hence I told her that we were not staying and will contact the host to get our money back only for the host to call us back and deny there is no water and he swore us. These were his exact words: “ you people can f$#k off, you know you live in this country and there is always loadshedding . You can f&^k off my property “ He said that we can ask booking.com for a refund but he will not give me a refund. We were informed by booking.com that the property , Milkwood will not refund you!

Neat, minimal, comfortable bed

Mold on bathroom ceiling. No hot water the whole weekend, owner only managed to get lukewarm at one stage

It was peaceful, spacious and clean

Firstly we had no warm water which meant we couldnt shower before going to bed and in the morning again no shower bcz the water issue wasn't able to get fixed and we were refused an alternative room just to go and shower. Secondly The pool area is around the property of the owner, I was afraid to go outside because I have a fear of dogs which meant I couldn't extend our stay bcz it meant being unable to go outside because they have big dogs. If only I knew that before I booked the place or at least try keep em away from guests not everyone is comfortable around Dogs.
