Amaya Beach Passikudah

Room was nice. Food was nice but became repetitive as we stayed 6 days out of 8 planned.

This was our second hotel out of 3 in Sri Lanka. We were planning to stay 8 nights but left after 6 because of disappointing experience and would leave after 3 but refund was rejected so we eat the loss of 2 last nights. The worst thing was the beach. It was very shallow and full of coral. You could do some carefull snorkeling when tide is high but swimming was not safe. During our stay we heard disappointment from many guests. To swim you need to go 200 meters to the right of hotel and it is very busy public beach with no sunbeds or umbrellas. It is much better option to choose one of other hotels 500 to the right. I visited hotels with similar issues with the beach but they did things to keep customer happy like free transport to the sandy beach, or boats or wooden docks to dipper water where you can swim safely. Spa was disappointing as well, my wife had worse massage ever . I didn't go as the rule was that only male can massage male which is not my preference. During our 2 weeks stay in Sri Lanka we visited 6 different places for massages and this was only place with such a rule. We ended up going to hotel next door and received best massage ever, we spend a loot of money there so Amaya lose. Vibe of the Amaya as a whole was off, everything was slow, non responsive. For example they didn't have zero sugar soft drinks which are readily available in Sri Lanka, when requested and with good tipping they managed to have it for half day and then all guests were buying it and they run out of it. We send took took driver and got room supplies in 10 minutes, something F&B manager couldn't do in 6 days. Staff in reception and waiters in the restaurant were newer smiling, I felt like they are not happy to be there. Reception will not even great you when you are passing by, busy on the phone watching videos.Service was always slow.

The facilities look nice and clean, the sea view room was nice. The pool and the surroundings were very nice.

The food was not that good , both options buffet and a la cartè are not at level of a high ranking hotel.

The beach of the hotels further down the bay is nice. The hotel beach is dirty and not maintained.

The hotel is nothing like the pictures on booking. The pool is ridiculously small and shallow, and the area around the pool is made of concrete, it is sizzling hot during the day, you cannot walk. The beach is the worst one on the bay - you can find cups, bottles, papers and whatever other garbage left by passers by or guests. The bathrobe in the room had stains and smelled bad, it seemed filthy. The cleaning person stole money from my wallet. The staff is completely incompetent, they literally roll their eyes when you call them to the table to order, and have absolutely no clue about the dishes in the menu. On top, the food in the restaurant is absolutely uneatable. They serve the same dishes every day and night at the buffet, the quality of any of the options is below minimal, you can check the photos attached.

Schönes komfortables Hotel, großzügiger Pool-Gartenbereich, kilometerlanger tlw. menschenleeren Strand, ruhiges Meer, schöne Wandermöglichkeiten (Warnung vor Elefanten beachten), Natur pur mit Streifenhörnchen, Krokodile und Warane in der Lagune und die toll arbeitende, warmherzige, stets lächelnde Amaya-Mannschaft. Essen sehr gut und vor allem mit großer lokaler Vielfalt, kleine Weinkarte fair gepreist, gute Cocktails, … Generell ein sehr gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis.

Das kleine Zimmer neben unserer Suite, das mit einer zwar versperrten aber nicht isolierten Tür mit der Suite verbunden ist und getrennt vermietet wird. Unglaublicher Lärm in der Suite, wenn man in dieses kleine Zimmer Ehepaar mit zwei Kindern hineinpfercht.

Do not be put off with the size of this hotel because large events are in the rooms the other side to other people and the pool is enormous so doesn’t feel crowded and with the beach beyond feels very spacious . We arrived on the May1st celebrations weekend and there were quite a few groups doing their individual activities. It was very interesting to see. The welcome you receive when you arrive is outstanding and there was a special person called Nithan who helped us so much to get the best room: we ended up having a lovely groundfloor terraced room looking at the sea - wonderful. Chamara on the desk was also very helpful The room was extremely spacious and the bed enormous and I slept like a baby It was cleaned everyday by a great team . The pool as I have said was enormous and with a shallow end in the middle with deeper ends children stayed in the middle while we could swim in deeper water . The beach is beautiful and swimming possible - just have to look out for some rocks. It was very interesting to see the public beach beyond the hotel with the fun locals had in the sea. We had breakfast included and there was a massive range of food as well as an egg station. Th restaurant staff were amazing especially y and we have forgotten his name but he always got us a table we wanted and attentive as well as friendly. The chefs on the egg station were also so good to us cooking us bacon. I would recommend this hotel if you like good service and being next to the sea

There were no bars along the beach to go for a drink but that isn’t a fault of the hotel so doesn’t count
