Gokayama Onsen Akaokan

We loved the hike to the property, we loved visiting the Iwazi family gassho house across the road (it has been in their family for 14 generations) and we loved the view and sound of running water outside the room we stayed in. The onsen was good.

The building is fairly old so that might explain plumbing problems that meant our room bathroom was smelly. The food was good but the presentation here is very different from the friendly service we have received in other Japanese accommodation.

Host really tried their best despite property being a little dated (but most ryokans are like that). I love the breakfast and dinner served. We were the only family there during our stay and it was comfortable.

Nothing. It's a distance away from Shirakwago but we booked this knowing this very well. So all good

): This is my fourth road trip in Japan. I am travelling with my family comprising 4 adults. Our booking are 2 single and a twin room including dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious and clean.

The food is average. Onsen rather small. Hence did not use it. The onsen tax is applied whether you use it or not.

We love the food! There was so much and the quality was good. Also, the bus stop was just outside the property, making it easy to take public transport there. We were able to visit Shirakawa-go and Suganuma World Heritage sites.

Nothing.

Our stay included dinner and breakfast and the meals were fantastic and exceeded our expectations. The Onsen at the property was also a bonus.

The accommodation is rather dated and the rooms could do with modernizing and freshening up. However, the rooms did contain all the facilities that we needed during our stay.

The staff were very helpful with my car booking. The hotel is very dated

The room was OK, but the Mats under the table were quote stained
