Golden Butterfly Villa

The location was superb, a five minute walk to all the glitz of Pub Street yet located down a tiny side road which, for the crucial hours of 10pm-6am, was very quiet. What made my stay memorable again -- my second visit to Golden Butterfly -- was the staff. They really were superb, knowledgeable, friendly, always smiling, always helpful and always welcoming from a cold towel ready for me when I returned from a hot day exploring temples to advice on everything from early morning calls to transport. I also loved the little entryway water garden flanking a tiny bridge leading inside to the hotel foyer. It made waiting for my next tour guide to arrive a real pleasure because it was full of life from tiny fish to different birds and all in such a compact space. The bed in my room was so comfortable and there was masses of space from a large wardrobe with a dozen hangers to a long work surface to allow me to spread out everything from water and backpack to a change of clothes, tour instructions and leaflets and charging cables. It was easy to recharge my phone in my room and crucially the bathroom had a two pin razor point for shaving and worked perfectly. Top marks.

I have to include a noisy school opposite. It didn't bother me at all because lessons didn't start until 7am and I'm an early riser, but some may not like the sound of children. To Golden Butterfly's credit, there was a note waiting for me in my room when I arrived pointing out noise from the school which said that if it bothered me they would move me to a quiet room. It didn't and I stayed for 17 lovely nights. Just be aware of the option of a different quieter room and ask for it if you are bothered by the school. It shouldn't be a problem for anyone since any day with a tour -- of which there are many -- will generally require you to be in the foyer for pick-up by 7.40am so I was out grabbing breakfast at one of the many little nearby restaurants by 7am. It actually worked in my favour one morning when I forgot to set my phone alarm. First the school children woke me up and then staff rang me with an early call I'd arranged as back-up. Very efficient hotel.

Room was clean, comfortable and location was perfect.

I lowered the score only because the room didn't look like in pictures at all (king room with balcony). No TV and no money safe mentioned in description. Just an average room, nothing special. Nevertheless, it was quiet, comfortable and the staff was great.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful and they really strived to help with all of my requests.

My room at the east side of the hotel was very noisy at night because of a bar nearby. But when I told this to the staff, they talked to the bar to limit the noise and then offered me a new room

Très bien situé dans le centre-ville, à la fois proche des commerces et en retrait de la rue — donc au calme, l'hôtel allie un cadre chaleureux et traditionnel (bois massif et décorations) avec des équipements modernes. Chambre agréable et très propre. Lit dobule très confortable (avec une couette), petit balcon avec mobilier. La salle de bain est spacieuse et bien aménagée. Eau (très) chaude et bonne pression. Wi-Fi de bon débit, petit frigo et cafetière à disposition. Des vélos sont par ailleurs mis à disposition de manière gratuite à la réception. Le personnel (jeunes étudiants), est très bien éduqué. Outre le khmer et l'anglais, certains parlent même quelques mots de français. Comme bien souvent au Combodge, ils sont extrêmement souriants, symathiques et disponibles. Excellent contact. Très bien entretenu, cet hôtel a le charme de l'ancien et l'efficacité du nouveau. Aucun regret, sinon un séjour finalement trop court ! J'y reviendrai.

L'école primaire mitoyenne de l'hôtel peut être parfois un peu bruyante. Par ailleurs, suite au covid-19 puis au conflit avec la Thaïlande, l'hôtel a été contraint d'abandonner différents services (restauration entre autres) et gère les petits-déjeuners, la lessive et la location de scooters avec des partenaires. Rien de vraiment contraignant.
