Kurohoro Machiya House

Lovely, authentic experience, comfortable stay. Amenities provided, house was cooled down prior to our arrival, check-in and check-out process was very smooth.

Nothing comes to mind, genuinely was an enjoyable stay at the property, in line with our expectations.

Lovely traditional house in a great location with modern, clean facilities. Lots of bath towels for a few days which I love. Easy short walk to everything we wanted to see. Nice to have 2 bathrooms and toilets as there were 4 of us. Check in and check out were smooth and efficient.

Very quaint, lovely house with a delicate garden and tatami mats throughout. Quiet neighborhood, close to Omichi market and the castle. Really lovely neighborhood that was extremely walkable. Two toilets in the house, one large bathroom and one small one. We didn’t use the upstairs shower. Staff was super nice. They came to let us drop off our luggage. Check out was a breeze.

The bathroom had an odd smell that was likely coming from the drain pipe of the tub. It’s not uncommon in Japan but it could be a little strong. I appreciate the coffee being included, but there was only one package for 2 days and it wasn’t very good. To be fair, coffee isn’t really the drink here and there was plentiful green tea available.

We really loved our stay at Kurohoro Machiya House. The house is beautifully designed in a traditional Japanese style, with a small garden and a lovely round window facing it. Everything was comfortable and well-equipped – the kitchen was convenient, the Western-style dining table was a nice touch, and the shower on the ground floor was especially spacious, luxurious, and relaxing. With two showers and two toilets, the house was very comfortable for our group of five people. The location is excellent – on a quiet, street that feels peaceful and private, yet it’s just a short walk from all the main attractions: Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden, the Omicho Food Market, and about 18 minutes on foot from Kanazawa Station. One small issue: we expected three bedrooms based on the Booking.com listing, but the third “bedroom” is actually the Japanese-style living room, without doors for privacy. Still, the staff member who welcomed us was incredibly kind and helpful, and she provided a creative solution using a foldable wooden frame and sheet to create a partition. We also booked a private tea ceremony and a reservation at an excellent sushi restaurant through the company’s website – both were memorable highlights of our stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a stylish, peaceful, and well-located stay in Kanazawa!

Lovely renovated machiya. Great area for reaching all different parts of town. Great restaurants and lovely supermarkets nearby.

It was very comfortable and warm everywhere in the house except for the upstairs bathroom which could use heated tiles. The space heater didn’t really do the trick so it was rather chilly while showering. However, it was a fairly large shower and bath area with very nice decor.
