Excellent lodge everything you could wish for and very clean

Only thing missing was a bar/restaurant and shop on site a minor inconvenience

Everything was spot on - the lodge had everything you needed to make the stay amazing - lovely peaceful location, hosts were on hand when we had a power cut and soon pointed us in the right location for the fuse box. This was home from home, so much so I have already booked again for September!!

There was absolutely nothing to dislike!!

The lodge itself was lovely, clearly well cared for with plenty of cooking utensils and everything you needed to make a good meal. The beds were very comfortable and both bathrooms were in fab condition

The main thing that let down our experience was the owner and the communication. We were contacted with just a week to go before our booking to say we would have no power all of the Sunday morning of our stay. This put a real dampener on our trip as it was our main day for relaxing and when we asked if there was going to be a cost reduction for the booking due to not being able to use the facilities we were initially told no but later got a £18 refund. We were staying in November and I had not long had surgery a few months before so needed to know what cooking facilities still worked and whether there would be heat without power. I apologised to the owner for all the questions as I knew it might have sounded like we were being awkward and he responded with “Don’t apologise, you are awkward and pathetic”. He insisted on coming to the property on check in to refund the £18 in person which after that comment I found intimidating. After explaining I was asking the questions due to surgery (which quite frankly I shouldn’t have had to disclose” he reiterated that I should have told him sooner and that he did mean his comments about being awkward and pathetic. During the trip on the Friday night the power went off unexpectedly at 9pm and didn’t come back on until after midnight. The communication from the owner during this time was non existent other than a brief message to say someone was trying to fix it. The temperature in the lodge dropped to 12 degree during this time. There was only one small torch available and we were in complete darkness in the middle of nowhere. Such a shame as the lodge itself was beautiful and perfect for us to go to Castle Howard. I would not stay there again though as I felt on edge throughout the trip due to the poor, rude and extremely unprofessional communication from the owner. I know customers can be awkward at times and I had already apologised for all the questions but never in my life have I experienced what I did on this booking.

My family and I had a fantastic stay at the Macaw Lodge, which provided us with a much-needed break over the festive period after a busy year. The lodge was luxurious, spotlessly clean, and exceptionally well equipped with all the amenities and facilities a family could need. It’s clear the hosts have thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and special. Thank you so much to the hosts, this certainly won’t be a Christmas we forget.

A beautiful homely lodge , set out perfectly , lots of wardrobe space , 2 bathrooms , comfortable beds , huge tv in living room , Xmas tree was lovely too. Found games in wardrobe which we actually played love draughts!! Sunken hot tub and towelling robes just perfect . To top it off a treat basket for us and our new puppy 😍

It was perfect just the pillows on double bed were hard but that’s a very small thing as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. location is Right beside the stunning Castle howard 🤩

Absolutely amazing lodge! We stayed here for 3 nights my son’s 7th birthday & it was just perfect. There was a Halloween welcome hamper which was full of treats for the kids & tea, coffee, milk & biscuits. We have stayed in quite a few different lodges in different places across the country & this is by far the best one we’ve ever stayed in. There were so many little touches that just you don’t often find. There was absolutely nothing that the owner hasn’t thought about- from crockery to glasses to utensils to dressing gowns- it’s all just perfect.
