Bacab Tulum

The breakfast was amazing! we had breakfast at Mera every day during our stay and Paola at Bacab made sure we hade one special breakfast in the garden. It was beautiful!

This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. BACAB completely failed on every level. I had to switch rooms because of a water pump noise so loud it felt like sleeping next to a construction site. The shower was unusable until a staff member pulled out a piece of plastic from the shower head. How does that even happen in a supposed hotel? The toilet clogged twice during my stay, requiring staff intervention both times. To top it off, there was a party blasting music until 5:30am on a Tuesday. How can a hotel allow that when guests are paying to sleep? As if this wasn’t bad enough, there was no working WiFi, and my room was cleaned only once in five days. When I brought these massive inconveniences to their attention, the best they could offer was a therapeutic massage. A massage! As if that even begins to make up for two sleepless nights, and the general incompetence of their service. This place is a joke, and the management clearly has no clue how to run a hotel. Save yourself the frustration and avoid BACAB at all costs.

The breakfast was very appetizing. However, more than just eggs should be available. Especially for longer stays like mine of 7 nights.

The taxis in Tulum are extremely predatory. The one recommended by the hotel concierge charged $100 for a 30 minute each way trip for an excursion which itself only cost $150. I was not informed of the price prior to being transported. Also, it is best to book a shuttle to and from airport to though viator. As I was quoted almost $300 for transport to and from Tulum airport by the concierge prior to arriving. The concierge is helpful in organizing some activities however transport is not one of them. Hotel should ensure that all guests are informed PRIOR to any transport what the cost will be. Other than that, the property is magnificently maintained, reception staff are wonderful. Linens are nice quality as well as toiletries. I would visit again.

The rooms were very eye appealing.

We lost electricity for an extended amount of time. We couldn’t flush the toilet. We were miserable because of no air conditioning.

The Presidential Suite had a small private pool and a big, nice kitchen downstairs.

The upper floor (bedroom) air conditioning was not keeping the room cool enough to sleep in. We slept downstairs in the living room for three nights. Luckily, the air conditioning was cool and couch was comfortable. The open air bathrooms can be stifling and warm.

I really enjoyed the space at Bakab, its very creative and stylish, I loved all their design decisions - it felt very nice in the studio, at the pool and at the cute cafe nearby, the breafast was included and they even organized different activities during the week - free movie screening, yoga, theatre, party etc

They still have construction on site, so the noise during the day ia prwtty disturbing but if you are planning to be outside most of the time, then its not an issue
