Riverside Garden Hostel

The free breakfast is good—and the mountain view spectacular: the attached photo is from the table!—but small and you can’t buy more. (Fortunately, the ‘no outside food’ rule doesn’t seem to be enforced during this, non-commercial mealtime, and there’s plenty of cheap and varied food nearby so it’s not a big problem.) Comfy seating in the common area (by reception) and they don’t feel the need to pump in music-nobody-asked-for (why do others in public spaces *do* that?!), so you can actually read, have a quiet conversation, or just space out as you like.

Be prepared to pay in USD cash! Otherwise they use an exchange rate ~6% above xe.com (and if you use a credit card, there’s a 3% surcharge.) No kitchen access—you can’t even make your own coffee or tea. They charge for drinking water (though not much for refills). Dorm 112 has a constant shower leak, making the bathroom floor always wet. (Only water, of course, but still…)

The location was quite good. And the view at the hostel is stunning and relaxing especially by the pool. The staff are generally nice. The guy at the reception was patient enough to tell me a little bit about the history of Laos which I appreciated.

The beds and pillow’s were not too comfortable and it was bit difficult to sleep. The bed also makes noise every time you move. The food for breakfast is generally okay, basic but could be better.

This hostel is well located, and the breakfast is good.

The hostel has a pool bar attached to it where they played very loud club dance music on one of the two nights we stayed.

This riverside hostel is perfectly situated with easy access to local restaurants and bars, so you’re always within walking distance of great food and entertainment. The view of the Nam Song River from my room was a highlight, especially in the mornings. The property offers both private rooms and dormitories, catering to all types of guests.
