I read a lot of 2/10 and 10/10 reviews, completely bimodal feedback: either terrible or excellent. I do not think they are completely fair. I would rate it 4.5/10. You need to dial down your expectations, these are really, *really* basic accommodations, not a “hotel” by any stretch. It is OK for a solo traveler who is not particularly picky. I stayed for five nights for the Honolulu marathon. This YMCA is right next to the start line and just a short walk to the expo at the convention center. Incredibly convenient for my needs. PROS: excellent location, 15’ walk to Waikiki beaches, relatively clean room, comfy bed, plenty of hot water in the shower, nice staff, low price, easy low-cost covered parking next door, several food trucks right in front of the building. CONS: building condition is quite poor, it has not been painted in decades; no AC in the room; weak wifi, unusable at peak times; shared showers could be cleaner (definitely bring shower shoes); some bathroom sinks were broken; room facing busy road in front of building was VERY noisy; lots of signs with “rules” that would get you expelled (smoking, alcohol, washing clothes in the bathroom, having unauthorized company…) Patrons appear to be a mixture of tourists and long-term residents. Would I consider returning? Probably. But just if traveling alone.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating to our requests. Will visit again.

This place has shared restrooms and showers. Some floors are male only, Co-ED and female only. Don’t expect tip top stuff, it is a budget place for a reason. The great thing is it is across a popular mall and walkable. At night it can get noisy since the street is right below and cars love to rev their engines or honk. Restrooms smell bad for males. 1 toilet for many rooms since the other was out of service. 2/6 sinks were not working. There’s also 2 shared showers which is weird. They did provide amenities such as a toothbrush, shampoo, towels etc upon request.

Great for the price!

I originally booked the hotel from 09OCT24-14OCT24. When I arrived at the hotel the evening of 09OCT24 at approximately 2200 and I arrived to my room, the one thing I noticed was that there wasn’t a bathroom in the bedroom. I went downstairs and spoke to someone at the front desk, and was informed that there were shared bathrooms in the hallway. The advertisement on the Orbitz app when I originally registered for the hotel did not mentioned anything about a shared bathroom. Because I already paid fully for the room, I decided to stick it through. On 10OCT24 at approximately 1200, I went into the shared bathroom. When I walked to the showers, I notified the showers were absolutely filthy. There’s mold on the floor, showers smell terrible, the tiles look dusty, and there was a random piece of soap on the floor. I was not going to take a shower. I called Orbitz customer service informed them about how their ad did not mention anything about shared bathrooms and the showers were filthy. I was informed that I was going to get refund. I registered to stay at different hotel that evening until 14OCT24. I informed management about the issue and they told me that they would not provide me a refund after I told them about the issue. To make a long story short I was not issued a refund. I highly do not recommend staying at this hotel. They stole my money. The place is an absolute mess. Orbitz needs to do a better job providing a description about the hotel for customers.

Management confronted me a pun check in Saying my rate hurts them, I got to go to rate. Couldn't find reservation, invoice at hotel was for lots more than originally agreed with Expedia. The Y is probably going to be torn down shortly and they don't spend money to fix it up it seems.

Overall conditions are very poor.

1. I was going to be charged $105 for shared bathroom and shower - at the end of a hallway with flickering fluorescent lights and only shower curtains for "privacy" 2. Paid $24 more for my own bathroom. No cap on the heat, almost burned my skin (and I love heart). No soap, no shampoo, etc. Only one small towel 3. Windows by shower would not close completely and there were no curtains 4. Door was riddled with holes and patches. No lock from inside 5. No AC. One standing fan 6. TV and microwave downstairs in a closed common area. Very much Nurse Ratched/One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest vibes 7. Staff were sweet but it took ONE HOUR for check in. Without a line 8. Dry pool feels depressing 9. The whole place feels depressing
