Inner Dowsing Lightship

We really enjoyed our stay on this beautiful boat, it's such a special experience! The room is cosy and really well equipped and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

It’s an unusual venue and the room was sweet, clean & warm with adequate facilities.

I booked this as part of a birthday surprise for my husband. As well as the fact that it’s a boat, the reviews of the excellent & plentiful cooked breakfast served in a dining room with the hosts present explaining the history of the boat really appealed. I told the hosts on booking we’d be arriving on my husband’s birthday and they were really sweet, immediately offering to put banners and balloons in the room, which I gratefully accepted. I therefore expected a warm welcome and lovely surprise for my husband. Instead, we seemed the be the surprise. It took ten minutes of ringing the doorbell, banging on the door and walking round the boat before Eunha came out. She seemed mortified, repeatedly laughing with her face covered by her hands, it was very awkward. She kept apologising, saying she’d left her phone in the car, but that has nothing to do with anything, we’d arrived at the time planned weeks ago. She showed us our room, and of course there were no balloons or banners; I believe she forgot we were coming. Eunha sent me a message apologising for the lack of balloons and banners and offering to do it while we’re out; I’d already told my husband what had happened so it wouldn’t have been a surprise and anyway, coming back to them at the end of the day would just be weird, so I declined. She also said in her message that she’d bring pastries and coffee to our room in the morning. I explained I am coeliac so asked if she could offer me anything, if there’s no hot option, and I asked if we could eat it elsewhere. She didn’t reply, but I also asked for another towel (the room had been set up for one person) and that was in the room when we got back. I took my husband to Beantown a short drive away for a lovely cooked breakfast, I highly recommend it. So, a sweet place but the whole experience was marred by bad hosting and the complete lack of the cooked breakfast so many reviewers rave about.

Great experience to stay on the lightship. Sitting in bed watching the view and the Medway in the morning was wonderful. The kids loved the bunk beds and novelty of stay. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and furnished to a high standard. Location was good for exploring Rochester. We had breakfast at the recommended Beantown nearby which was great. A very relaxing stay and welcoming hosts.

The location - getting there in the dark on foot -

We liked the view as it depicted the winter scenes of a working Marina. The breakfast was delicious and delivered to the room.

Nothing to dislike.

Great view of the Medway river, nice room well appointed quality finish. Comfortable bed.

It didn’t bother us, but others may struggle if they have a large suitcase, getting up the narrow stairs.
