"Great view but disrespectful host"

The house itself has great potential, it’s spacious, the kitchen and dining area are beautiful, and the fireplace made for cozy evenings. Unfortunately, our experience was let down by both the condition of the property and, more importantly, by the host's attitude and response to feedback. Upon arrival, it was immediately clear the outdoor area hadn’t been checked or maintained in days. Yes, I had confirmed that the pool didn’t need to be opened, but the pool cover was full of dirty rainwater and leaves, and the surrounding area and patio were also covered in leaves. This gave a poor first impression and distracted from what should have been a beautiful view. Inside the home, the inverter was beeping loudly throughout the night, waking us up repeatedly. We eventually turned it off temporarily so we could sleep. The next morning, we reached out to the host about it, only to be told we had “no right” to do that. We were also sent the following message: “Unfortunately staying at my house doesn’t give you the right to do as you please, you’re a guest, but I let it be.” We treated the home with care and respect, and it’s disappointing to be met with hostility for making reasonable, considerate decisions, especially when we chose not to disturb the host late at night. We know this review will probably be met with another harsh reply, as that seems to be the norm, and unfortunately, Booking.com doesn’t allow us to respond further. That’s why I’ve chosen to be thorough (Within the character limit) and transparent here, rather than limit the experience to private messages or WhatsApp, as per my first review. The home has potential, but the host’s unwillingness to accept feedback and tendency to belittle guests has left a lasting negative impression. Sadly, instead of hospitality, we were met with confrontation.

When we shared polite, constructive feedback on several minor issues—like a clogged pool pump, slippery driveway, empty soap dispensers, no bedside lamps, exposed light switches, old groceries left by previous guests, and worn dishcloths—we were accused of “harassment.” We simply hoped this might help improve the experience for future guests. Another suggestion was to add a couch or comfy seating near the fireplace, instead of the cold glass dining table. It’s clear from scratches on the floor (and other reviews) that guests drag chairs to sit there anyway. The host’s response: “I won’t be changing my house set up based on the feedback of one person. The layout is chosen as I see fit.” We also suggested that a portion of the garden near the driveway could be adapted to help cars turn around more safely. The steep, slippery driveway is mentioned in multiple reviews. My dad accidentally bumped his car while turning and now the host claims, based on camera footage, that he damaged her fence, though there was absolutely no damage. Again, instead of accepting feedback offered in good faith, the host chose to escalate. What was most hurtful, though, were the personal insults. The host mocked us for our suggestions, implying we were “poor” and referred to us as “rif raf.” It’s hard to describe how unnecessary and unprofessional this kind of treatment is, especially when we were respectful, paying guests. We now realize that our experience isn’t unique. Many other reviews—on both Booking.com and Airbnb—mention similar treatment and rude, defensive responses. Lastly, I want to clarify something before the host continues making accusations: the leg of the sleeper couch was already broken when we arrived. We have timestamped photo evidence from check-in that proves this.

I suggest that you close the place where there’s WiFi. My young kids were playing there. Try to fix the drive way so that it’s easy for a car to get in Some lights are not working
