Hornbill Forest Habarana

Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr bemüht! Shashika war für jede Frage die wir hatten für uns da. Er hat sich sogar sehr liebevoll um unsere Kinder gekümmert. Es wurden unsere Ausflüge organisiert und das Frühstück ist einfach Klasse. Jeden Tag bekamen wir was anderes und es war seeeeehr lecker. Wir kommen aufjedenfall irgendwann wieder!

Super schoon, het is fantastisch mooi opgezet en ingericht. Het zwembad bij het water waar zoveel dieren leven. Ontzettend lieve en behulpzame mensen.

Lieu exceptionnel, au milieu de la nature, tout en restant proche de la route principale. Personnel d'une grande gentillesse, merci beaucoup à nos deux hôtes pour la qualité de leur accueil. Excellent petit déjeuner. Chambre de qualité. Petite piscine rafraîchissante. Un lieu hors du temps.

The location of this place is superb, just on the edge of Habarana, set in a small patch of forest, with monkeys, birds and other wildlife all around. Although only a minute from the main road, it feels like you are immersed in nature. The accommodation is essentially a tree house with a plunge pool below it - best appreciated in the morning to avoid the mosquitoes.

It felt a bit more home-stay than hotel. There is no reception as such - you are met in the dining shelter down the track from the road. Only breakfast is available so for dinner we walked only 5 minutes to the wonderful “Chill and Swing” restaurant (highly recommended, amazing food and atmosphere). It isn’t really true that it has room service - it has a couple of menu cards for local restaurants that will deliver. There are no proper curtains through the morning light filtered through the trees didn’t wake us too early. The air conditioning struggled to lower the temperature and the fan in the room was noisy and temperamental so one of us found it hard to sleep. It was all perfectly clean but basic. Including hand-soap next to the sinks would be an easy improvement to make.

Great breakfast and service, stuff was very friendly. We loved the villa which had 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a nice kitchen, and a private pond. Great jungle stay

The road to the property is something to improve

If you’re looking for a truly unique experience in Habarana, this is the place to be. From the very beginning, everything exceeded our expectations. Aruna, the owner, went above and beyond by personally picking us up from the airport and driving us all the way to the property—a journey of around six hours. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff, Sanjay and Shashika, who made sure every detail of our stay was perfect. We mentioned our allergies in advance, and they took great care to prepare food that was completely allergy-free—everything was fresh, beautifully made, and absolutely delicious. The property itself is stunning and unlike anywhere we’ve stayed before. One of the highlights was the open-air bathroom, where you might even find monkeys popping by to say hello while you get ready for the day—an unforgettable experience! I had planned to propose to my girlfriend during our stay, and the team truly made it magical. They suggested an even better location than the one I had in mind, and later that evening surprised us with a private, romantic dinner under the trees—it couldn’t have been more perfect. We were also shown around the local sights by the wonderful Sarat, who made the experience even more special by inviting us to his family home. There, he gave us a cinnamon-making demonstration and shared fascinating insights into the local history and wildlife. On our final day, Aruna and Shashika presented us with a beautiful moonstone gift and a framed photo of us from the proposal—such a thoughtful and touching gesture that left us genuinely overwhelmed. Leaving Hornbill was bittersweet, as we truly felt like we had found a second family in Sri Lanka. This is an experience we will cherish forever. Thank you all for such an unforgettable stay.
