Tropical Garden Homestay Pidurangala

Absolutely loved staying here. One of my favorite accommodations on a 5 week trip to Sri Lanka. The homestay is conveniently located close to the Pidurangala Rock, which was one of the highlights of our vacation. Better than Lion Rock in my opinion. It’s on a quiet road and surrounded by a lush green garden. One could easily just hangout and chill at the homestay and have a lovely day. The room is super clean and spacious enough and has a bathroom with hot water and good water pressure. Best shower during a 5 week stay. A fan on the wall which was more than sufficient and never felt hot while staying here. Delicious local breakfast served at a time of choice and we had dinner here on both nights too. Highly recommend. But what really makes this place stand out is the lovely family that run it. They were absolutely great and made me and my almost two year old daughter feel very sad to have to leave. My daughter had the time of her life playing with the two nephews Shamika and Sandeepa and the entire family looked out for both our wellbeing. Also good to know is that the son, Lahiru, has a tuktuk and can take you on tours and drive you anywhere you want. We went to Polonnaruwa with him and made it very easy to get there and around. Great value for money and highly recommend staying here. You won’t regret it.

We had a wonderful stay! The host and his family were incredibly kind and caring, always ready to help with anything we needed. During our long journey from Ella to Sigiriya, the host kept checking on us and even offered to pick us up from the bus station—a truly thoughtful and heartwarming gesture. The property is clean, comfortable, and surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with fruit trees, complete with a hammock to relax in. We felt so welcome and truly enjoyed our time here. Highly recommend staying here.

The garden was absolutely stunning! It was well-maintained, created a peaceful atmosphere. I really enjoyed spending time there. The host was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

The accommodation is only 3 km from Sygiria Lion rock. We wanted to walk there for the sunrise but the host warned us about elephant roaming during dusk and offered us a ride with tuk tuk to Sygiria in the morning. We walked on the way back and saw some ancient ruins and temple, it was really nice. The accommodation is peaceful and you can relax there. The host was really friendly and helpful, he also picked us up in Dambulla and the following day also dropped us at bus station and helped to catch bus to Kandy. 😊

This place was a hidden little Gem I stayed here for 3 nights and loved my time here. I could have easily stayed longer. The property is located a little out of town (which is a good thing) but only a 5 minute tuk tuk ride! the home itself is surrounded by rice paddy fields and nestled in a lovely garden with fruit trees and lovely plants. The family welcomed me into their home like one of their own from the minute I got there. Lahiru communicated with me before I arrived offering to pick me up from Dambulla in his tuk tuk ensuring I got there safely after a loooong bus ride. The rooms were immaculate and clean. Tiled floors and hot showers with mosquito nets provided and a fan. Large comfortable bed and clean spotless sheets. They helped me rent a bicycle so I could go and explore and cycle into town. He also was available to give me a lift into Sigiriya and pick me up whenever I needed him. The food was the best I’d had in Sri Lanka. The town Sigiriya was full of westernised overpriced restaurants so I ate every night here and it did not once disappoint. They even waited for the bus with me when I left waving me off. Sigiriya was the most beautiful place in these countries. What made it beautiful was not its endurance. The place I found to stay was cute. There were mosquito nets for mosquitoes. The internet was uninterrupted. The bathroom had plenty of water and hot water. Most importantly, the host guided me from Candy to the destination. He suggested and arranged a safari in a very beautiful park there. I saw many more elephants than I did in Yala. The coffee I drank in the evening and the breakfast in the morning were delicious. They also helped me wash my clothes.

The family that run the homestay are the loveliest people I've met in Sri Lanka! Incredibly friendly, hospitable, and accomodating. The lady of the house is an amazing cook, the food was some of the best I've had in Sri Lanka. Breakfast was varied and every day was a delight. I even had dinner here a few nights and it was absolutely delicious! Madushan, their son, was so nice and helpful. Helped me to rent a scooter, gave me loads of tips around Sigiriya and even drove me to the station early in the morning to catch my bus! Would 100% recommend staying here, feels like a home away from home!

Amazingly clean house. Beautiful room, lovely garden and great food. But the most important reason to stay here is because of the family! So lovely, mother is an amazing chef, father is very nice and knows a lot about the area, and the son will arrange the best possible stay for you. He will bring you everywhere, even in the middle of the night, arranges (cheap!) safari tour’s for you and will bring you to all the local spots for beautiful sunsets and nice restaurants. Wish this family all the best.

Every curry I eat now is nothing compared to the curry from the mother of this house.
