Kelley House

Second stay. Will stay again. Perfect location. Great walking neighborhood. Beautifully restored home. Large open space. Everything one needs for a short or extended stay. Quiet. We love it! Great to sit on the balcony and have coffee.

Spacious room with kitchenette in a lovely setting. Many nice touches (warm blanket for curling up on the sofa, restaurant recommendations, etc). Easy parking and clear communication. The area is residential, but it is a 20 minute walk from historic Pensacola. Nice curtains provide privacy. There was minimal footstep noise from upstairs, nothing abnormal for an old historic home such as this.

Absolutely wonderful. The house is a gem, an old world building with beautiful details. The room was superbly furnished in exquisite taste and very comfortable. The kitchenette, while less than in an airbnb, was more than you'd expect in a hotel. Its location is also great, on a picturesque street corner (the house across the street has a lovely rather exotic garden) within a pleasant walk to downtown and a few minutes'w walk to one of the best seafood eateries, Maria's. It was so nice for me, solo woman, to return in the evening to this charming home, with its welcoming porch, then walk up the grand staircase surrounded by homey wooden trim and decorations, rather than walk through an impersonal hotel hall and long cold corridors. I'd return anytime.

The fact that there was no one there. It's always nice, in an unknown place in particular, to have someone at the door. But this place is more like an airbnb run by an agency rather than the owners. The contact with the agency was also very impresonal.

We enjoyed being in a neighborhood and not having commercial properties all around us.

The room was nicely decorated, there were plenty of towels, the list of recommended restaurants was good and one was just 2 blocks away. The bathroom and room were clean. The host was responsive before check in. They also reached out on day 1 to see if all was ok. The neighborhood was cute and we like to jog. Just a few blocks toward the water in East Hills is a very swanky neighborhood and we liked looking at the mansions on our morning run. There are also lots of neighborhood parks dotted through the area. One is close to beaches (by car), and walkable to a few restaurants.

Noise: all sounds from the room above, even tiptoes, were loud in our 1st floor room. The electronic locks are very noisy and echo through the house, so at 5 am, we heard first the walking upstairs from us, then the room door lock whir open, then whir close, then the footsteps down the stairs, then the front door electronic door lock noise to open, and to close. Same at night. Safety and Noise and Maintenance: the front steps are too dark. There should be more than dim solar lights on the steps. Although there were front door string lights, they were not on, and the front door single light did not shine on the steps. The sidewalk from the car parking area to the front had huge bushes falling into the sidewalk space. (Bushes are the Kelley property). The black-on-black keys for the door locks are impossible to read except with bright light, so be ready to use your phone flashlight. The hall light must be turned on and off by a guest--and as room #1 we did this, but that meant anyone who came home after us didn't have a light on inside (and if we left it on, it shone in our room). Our room needed new batteries for the fan control. This suggests that maintenance--like replacing batteries 1x a year--is not done unless there is a complaint. Comfort: though clean and well-decorated, the room was style over comfort. The morning light came right in through the shades so no sleeping in. The bed was soft not firm. No tea offered--just coffee pods, though there is a press pot here as well. There's a cutting board, but it's on a high shelf behind some decorative objects.
