Alla Mescita is a fantastic accommodation option - do not under estimate it. Pier has taken a considered and sensitive approach to this apartment restoration, retaining its incredible history, yet elevating it with a modern comfortable aesthetic. It is located in the old, quiet Sassi area - you feel the history at every turn. Within the apartment’s caves the families who lived here made wine - you’ve got to love that backstory. I had travelled for a few weeks prior, so having a washing machine and a private/ secure courtyard to dry clothes was beneficial. A well-appointed kitchen has everything you could need…but equally there a fantastic restaurants with 200m. Views from the terrace are Instagram worthy plus it’s a perfect spot to soak up Matera’s atmosphere. Many tourist highlights and shopping are within an easy walk. As a solo woman travelling, I felt very safe in the neighbourhood. What really stood out for me was Pier’s undeniable passion for his city and desire to ensure each of his guests have a rich, insightful experience. His enthusiasm, warm welcome and excellent recommendation ensured a great stay in Matera and has left a lasting impression (and I’ve worked in hospitality for over 25 years). Pier kindly collected and dropped me off at the bus station, despite being on-call as he was expecting his first child. In short - stay here.

L’alloggio è davvero ampio, caratteristico, tipico e ristrutturato da poco, completo di ogni accessorio, ma soprattutto accogliente come solo un luogo denso di storia può esserlo! Situato nella parte alta del Sasso Caveoso, gode di una posizione privilegiata e di una vista spettacolare sulla città. Pochi pochi passi e si è subito in centro. Una scala a scendere e si è nel cuore del Sasso. Che dire di Pier? È stato un host cordiale e appassionato, sempre disponibile e prezioso per i tanti consigli e le informazioni che ha condiviso con generosità riguardo Matera e le sue tradizioni. Poter prendere parte alla famosa Festa della Bruna è stato emozionante! Consiglio a chiunque di fermarsi in questa città per qualche giorno e di approfittare di questo alloggio così speciale, per immergersi in una vera e propria “esperienza materana”.
