Takamiya Ryokan Yamakawa

Room is very spacious. Food is excellent. Staff is very nice, good service. Onsen is superb.

Parking space is limited, have to leave your car key to staff.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. “Valet” type parking to manage the somewhat restricted on site parking. Great food. Able to self manage room heating. Bottleshop next door. Nice quiet neighbourhood. Short drive to Yonezawa.

One of the outdoor baths was a bit average, but the other was fine. They swapped over genders each day so you could time getting the good one if you planned ahead.

Nothing. It was awesome

Location was within Onogawa, which was a quaint little town perfect to walk around in spring weather. A bit difficult to access Yonezawa city, but good if you only want to experience Onogawa. Staff was extremely thorough in explaining the facilities and things to do around the area.

Room cleanliness left much to be desired, and there was no hot water available in the rooms. As the room we stayed did not have a private bathroom, we had to use the onsen, but water pressure and temperature in the onsen area was not good at all. Cars were simply parked outside the hotel, and you had to give your car keys to the staff each day in exchange for your room keys. There were times when there were no hotel staff available at the front, meaning we had to wait just to be able to get our room keys / car keys.
