"Value for Money Ryokan Inn experience in a lovely Onsen Town!"

Property is in heart of onsen town. Lovely stay at the Ryokan Inn. We had one of the largest rooms at the property. Comfortable stay overall.

"my worst experience in a Japanese Ryokan"

absolutely nothing! but breakfast was good.

very poor overall. outdated and not maintained facilities . we paid US$ 280 (yen 36,000) without dinner for a room worth $80. room was so cold we had to sleep with our ski clothes on to keep warm. Western room bedding is just a mattress thrown on the floor. Heater has insufficient power or is dirty. When I told the front desk staff in the morning, i just got a shoulder shrug. Seems to be the norm. No offer to compensate or empathy. Our traveling companions had exactly same problems in their room. I have stayed in many ryokans throughout Japan over the last 10 years. This was by far my worst experience in Japanese hospitality. Note that this ryokan also trades under a different name on some websites such as trip advisor « Yumori Shomian Yamakawa ». This is managed by Takamiya hotel group. I would stay elsewhere.
