ZAIt is remote with barely any signal, which was just was we needed. The owners are amazing g people and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

ZAGrootwaterval is perfect for the person we wants to have a true break from the business of life. We stayed in Ribbok and Gemsbok in the heart of summer (the 2 2 sleepers closed to the main house), which were comfortable and relatively well stocked with the usuals (fridge but no microwave), but do only come with solar batteries, gas and very limited signal. Do not expect to be on your phone here, pick up that book you have wanted to read and enjoy. The hosts were amazing, taking us on a sunset drive and informing us of the farm swimming pools on the property. Highly recommend taking a day out to the camp site, sit under the tree and take a dip in the farm pool…amazing! The accommodation is also great for dogs, which we all had. Although it is really hot in the middle of the day, there are lots of walks and our dogs loved exploring! Ribbok and Gemsbok are also fenced, so easy to leave them on their own, but the 8 sleeper has no fence so if you have wandering dogs you might need to keep and eye on them. If you have a big UPS or something similar bring that, you will be grateful for some power to charge you phone before you leave. The trail running and mountain biking is excellent, the 17km 4x4 route is challenging but not that technical, really worth bringing the bikes up if you can. The accommodation is truly unique, a genuine farm stay with Karoo vistas from your doorstep. If you are a big group try stay at the 8 sleeper, it has an amazing farm pool, fire place and porch.
The last bit of the drive to the farm is really bumpy gravel road, so just make sure you bring the right car. Our SUV handled it fine, we just took it slow. (It is a long good gravel road and then 7km of difficult road, but some cute signs and amazing views make it a bit easier). Gemsbok doesn’t have a plug (the fridge and lights plug straight into the solar), so your phone is going to die and you kinda need to be okay with that. It is a rustic farm stay though, so not really a fault of the accommodation. The accommodation is about an hour from Prince Albert on the difficult gravel road, so you can’t ‘pop to the shops’. We didn’t mind but some might, just come well stocked with your food and drinks.
