Gondwana Canyon Roadhouse

I'm so glad we booked the Roadhouse! Great facility, food was good with a wide selection to choose from. The whole place has a quirky and unique atmosphere. Don't let the word "Roadhouse" put you off, this is a vibey spot that is well worth the visit.

We were very disappointed with the activity.We went on the 3hr drive to the Fish River Canyon. It is way overpriced at over R1000 per person! When enquiring about the activity, no one told us of the option to drive ourselves to the Canyon. Our guide was a very nice man but gave us no information that we could read on the boards at the view site. The snacks were 1 small plate of standard fare chips and biltong served on the hood of the vehicle. We also had to drive ourselves over to the main lodge,25km away, to join the drive. No shuttle was offered. We recommend you do the drive yourself if you can. You will see just as much of the Canyon for a fraction of the price.

Unique roadhouse

Uncomfortable bed mattress - very very hard.

Beautiful venue 25km from Fish River Canyon main view point. Decor inside and outside was very interesting with all the old vehicles and tools. Lovely diner food and wonderful breakfast.

Good proximity to the canyon.

Extremely overpriced accommodation, which is basic. The family room cost R11,500 for two nights. Everyone sleeps in the same tiny room and the toilet and bathroom is next to your nose. One of staff members at reception advised us that the Garas Self Drive takes 30 minutes - definitely not. We ended up spending almost 6 hours in the car and almost ran out of fuel. Horrible experience!

Some really lovely members of staff and we enjoyed the food at Canyon Roadhouse. We also liked the room decor, the comfortable beds and of course the burnt out cars outside!

It's a little expensive, price-wise, for the location and size of the rooms. It's also a shame that there's a massive gift shop at the front of main entrance restaurant/bar entrance. It makes an otherwise very well curated space feel a touch tacky/salesy, as you have walk through it every time.
