"A scenic adventure off the beaten track."

7.0

Great location to view the volcano. Wesley was a great tour guide showing us to the Kustom Village near by! The drive in was an experience in itself, 1.5hrs of 4wd driving - water crossings, up-hill battles, and moving across the ash plains at the volcanoes base.

Unfortunately the weather was not on our side during our stay, and due to excessive rain, we choose not to go up the volcano with a tour, as it would have been wasted money and we would not have seen anything. Many times we felt pressed into doing the tour (the family must receive a commission for providing customers to the tour group), and we said no on multiple occasions. After the last time we said no, we were left alone and no one spoke to us that morning - there was a change in behaviour. If it is raining, there is very little to do at the village, and you are left to your own devices. Make sure to bring lots of water and bug spray.

"Amazing local homestay with volcano views"

10.0

Couldn’t have asked for a better stay in Tanna. Susie and Morris + family were great hosts super friendly and always arranging activities for us to do. The volcano view is amazing especially at sunrise. The place was kept clean and organised, but manage your expectations as it is a no-thrills accommodation (wood hut, bed with mosquito net, cold shower etc). Susie’s meals were filling (1000vt lunch and 1200vt dinner). Communication beforehand was also good despite the remote location. Though I personally had internet signal the whole time when there. Come prepared with power banks charged (the solar power was unreliable on cloudy/rainy days). Or take advantage to disconnect! Be aware the costs add up once you’re there so plan your cash well before arriving! - Volcano entrance + return transfer 11750vt. - Traditional village (really worth it!) - 2000vt. - Local (small) waterfall and volcanic ash exfoliation - 1000vt. - John Frum Village (Friday nights, really recommend!) - 2000vt return. Airport transfer 1 way is 2500vt pp (or 5000vt if you’re the only one). It takes almost 2h on the back of a jeep and is half road, half super off-road 4x4 dirt track adventure! It’s fun but bring a plastic poncho for if it rains! They’ll stop briefly at a mini market for supplies (get bottles water for your whole stay!). Overall, we had a lovely stay and would love to return one day, with some forward planning and managing expectations for remote places it’s a great option to explore Tanna’s most unique attractions and cultures.

"Exceptional"

If you're looking to spend some time in a jungle paradise the way the locals do, then this is a great place to do it. The drive to get there is amazing and an experience on its own.

Nothing negative. it's an experience.

"One of the best experiences I had"

9.0

The location with spectacular views of the volcano and the experience of living with such an amazing family. Morrison, Suzie and family are all really great hosts and above all, they are really good and kind people. It was an amazing experience to live with them and be treated like part of their family and beyond that even treated like part of their whole community. Everyone around weee just so welcoming and kind. They take such good care of you and make sure your stay is comfortable and unforgettable. You can arrange some of the tours with them directly as well. The location is near by a custom village and the volcano is so much nearer than being in the other side of the island, which makes a big difference because the road to the volcano is very rocky and tiring.

We were looking for a authentic village experience, so the facilities are very basic but that was what I was looking for, living the real experience and know how life is in Tanna. I can’t complain about anything.

"Good"

5.0

"Rustic village with a heart of gold"

8.0

The view was amazing of the volcano. Along with staying in a local village. The people were so warm and friendly, very welcoming. If you want to get away from all the mod cons this is for you.

Just be aware this property is about 2 hours drive from the airport which is on the other side of the island. The 'transfers' is on the back of a ute sitting on wooden planks (which was an experience in itself). The road beyond the ash plains is major 4WD and river crossings, sometimes just a dirty track and incredibly steep on the final ascent to the village.
