The Heartwood

I am a repeat guest - always so lovely.

It was quiet, clean, perfect for a much needed rest. The staff was incredible. The only note is to keep the coffee coming at breakfast. It ran out and it took a bit to get someone to refill.

A lovely hotel that feels very different than most - has a natural, organic, peaceful feel to it. Very attractive with all those glass windows and I love the wild flowers planted on the grounds. It was very quiet at night (on a Saturday!) and we slept well. Attractive lobby and the little rooftop bar and patio outside the restaurant provided nice spots to sit outdoors. Front desk staff were all wonderful.

No tea in the room but they did have a quality brand (Harney & Sons) downstairs. Due to my allergy to scallions, we couldn't order the items on the dinner menu that we wanted, and ended up just splitting a charcuterie plate for our evening meal. It was huge, but filled with fatty meats, over buttered (greasy) bread, crackers with TONS of seeds, and the pate (which was delicious- the best thing on the plate) was awkwardly crammed in a little glass jug topped with white duck fat. Hard to get to the actual pate, for someone who isn't interested in eating "fat". The croissants at breakfast were kind of tasteless. I enjoyed the quinoa yogurt dish (?) but would have liked to know what was in it. No signage.

The hotel was beautiful and very clean. We would totally stay here again, however the temperature in the room was very uncomfortable. We understand eco-friendly temp controls, but the AC unit did not turn on at all during our stay. So we were very uncomfortable and did not sleep well. We had maintenance come take a look, we even called down to the front desk and no one knew how to fix it. Would totally stay again if the Units actual worked and not temp controlled.

We were very impressed with our stay at The Heartwood. The lobby, rooms, and "Snug" areas were comfortable and classy, the people at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful, and the location to restaurants and the beautiful Vassar campus was perfect. We will definitely stay here again.
