"Very Traditional Stay with wonderful host"

9.0

Wonderful central location, that made walking every where easy. Host Gave us our Onsen voucher, and match Yukata so we had a very authentic experience!

We did stay in the middle of summer and a heat wave, the room was hot, but thankfully the AC was very good, it was just warm getting to the bathroom.

"Would definitely stay again."

10.0

We booked a twin room which was very spacious as the cupboards provided storage for our bags so they didn't need to be kept on the floor. We dropped our bags off early and while we were out exploring, the owner took our bags to our room which was extremely kind of her since you have to take stairs to get to the room (no lift available). She provided us with Yakatas, slippers, shoes, toiletries, bath/ onsen passes, socks, tea and extra blankets. The room does get cold at night but there is a heater and plenty of blankets to use. The owner cleaned our room while we were out exploring which we didn't expect but was much welcomed. She helped us dress in the Yakatas for the onsen festival and gave us baskets and towels to use. Was a lovely stay. Close to the train station, family mart and main strip of Kinosaki.

Keep in mind the Ryokan is old so can be a bit creaky at night, thin walls and next to main road so don't expect complete silence while staying here. Didn't bother us, but can see how it would bother other people.

"Huge room, great location, best night of sleep of my whole trip to Japan"

8.0

The room was huge, and the ryokan is in an excellent location about 5 minutes from the train station and just off the main onsen street. The proprietor was very kind. We had the best nights of sleep of our whole trip in this ryokan—first comfortable bed I’ve had the whole time (thick futon on tatami, though I prefer a softer pillow). We were allowed to leave our luggage in the entry after checking out, before our train. We got yukata, onsen passes, tabi socks and geta clogs, towels, and little baskets to carry everything.

The sign outside doesn’t have any English writing, so we had to use the Google translate app to confirm we were in the right place. Check-in was a little confusing since it took a minute for the host to get to the front and we weren’t sure till then if there was some kind of self-check in situation. The host spoke little English, and the ryokan doesn’t provide meals (and most restaurants in Kinosaki aren’t open for breakfast or for dinner after about 5 pm) so be prepared to use Google translate, plan ahead for breakfast, and eat dinner early. You’ll have to hand carry your suitcase up the stairs. I don’t think we had a shower (though not at all a problem since the nearest onsen is about a 5-minute walk away.)
