Gondola House

Location, location, location. You're steps from the Nagasaka Gondola, and can walk out of breakfast at the cafe straight onto snow. Can't beat that for the price. Nice view looking down the hill at the rest of town as well. Staff were very kind and helpful.

It's among the more spartanly furnished accommodations I've stayed at in Japan, but frankly, it doesn't matter. You're not there for a cozy room or room service; you're there to have pow on your front doorstep, and in that department, it passes with flying colors.

The tatami mats on the floor was a nice traditional japanese touch. Being able to walk through most of the building with your shoes on was handy. The views out the windows are great. A lot of the rooms either look up at the mountain, towards the gondola, or back over town. The location was perfect for the main Nagasaka Gondola and an easy walk into the high street. There are cafes, restaurants and bars nearby and a good coffee shop on the ground floor. The shower facilities are what you would expect with a ryokan style accommodation (shared showers on the ground floor and shared toilets on each floor) The best thing to do in nozawa is use one of the 13 free public onsens in the town.

In rooms with tatami mats, I would have preferred a traditional roll out mattress instead of the single bed frame. It makes the room more usable.

Fantastic location, right at the base of the new gondala. Great to be able to have a sleep in and still make first gondala.

The whole place needed a good clean, particularly the bathroom and the common spaces. Would have been nice if they had provided cups / kettle / tea in the room. Staff were hard to get a hold of and slow to respond to messages, were also oddly cagey to give out the wifi network and password.
