Emerald Gecko

The location was good, access to beach with clear water. Given rooms and hut was also good

Too many mosquitoes and power cut. The other hotels beside us had power or were running on generator

Beach and restaurant area (not the restaurant itself). The lady at reception was nice.

No maintainance. Termite ridden, barely standing wooden "huts". Island life experience ke naam pe slum bana diya hai. No cleanliness at all. Structure was so unstable that we were afraid of turning sides at night. No safety. Property needs to be demolished and rebuilt into something safe. One "hut" was completely gutted by a fallen tree. Cant imagine what would have happened if someone was inside. Other "hut" was barely standing, inclined by ~15 degrees and kept standing with some jugaad. And they were still making booking for that "hut". I like their concept. So would suggest them to make a strong steel frame first and then cover it up with logs and screens to give it an authentic outer look.

The nature and the beach

My beach hut was falling apart literally. The black canvas used to disguise makes the hut looks like a slum. Internet was not realible and did not reach my room. There were constant power cuts that affected gecko but not the guest houses around. Because that was no toilette in my bathroom, its room smelled like pee. Cause no one, waking up in the middle of the night would walk to the other side of gecko just to urinate. There is no common areas apart from the restaurant to chill or socialize. I like indian beach huts, but mine in Gecko needs to be restored.

This is rustic accommodation not far from the beach with its own restaurant serving delicious and fresh food. The people who run it are really friendly and helpful. They organised transport for us around the island in a tuk tuk. We enjoyed walking along the beach and swimming when it was high tide.

The place is looking a bit neglected in places and could do with some care. Also make sure you have details of any payments you have made as they don’t seem to keep good records! I had printed correspondence from the hotel with a receipt and my bank details which they accepted. I am sure that no one was trying to con me out of money. The people are so nice.
