Rakucho Ryokan

It was so clean and beautiful! The owner is so accommodating to all my requests (which is embarrassing for me because I don’t request stuff usually) and he is very helpful. It is very near to bus stations and the train. The host also shows recommendations of the nearest shops/restaurants/establishments near the property

If you want to be very near to the city center, this place is still quite far.

What a cool place to stay. Beautiful rooms, and the bed was very comfortable. A lovely wee garden out back. I was a bit skeptical of shared toilets but they were nice and clean and never had to wait. The owner is very friendly and accommodating.

Our host was incredible, the ryokan was very comfortable, common spaces and bathrooms were clean, and we were provided with everything we needed. Location was not a problem for us, as there is a lot to do in the northern part of town as well and its quiet.

Can't think of one negative thing about our stay.

The view was beautiful and serene, the place was near the bus stop so commute was easy and over all a really great experience

Loved every bit of it

I loved the host, he was so friendly and sweet! Everytime we came back to the ryokan he greeted us with a friendly smile and was happy to give recommendations for things to see and do. The room was very clean, tidy, and comfortable. The location was perfect too, close to Kitaoji Station, or buses just a short walk away. The shared bathrooms were incredibly clean and spacious. We will definitely be back!

Nothing, our stay was perfect!

I loved the beautiful traditional room. The host was so sweet and friendly. The location was perfect! Calm and near a river, but still lots of restaurants and good coffee spots in the area. Also very easy to access everything with the subway. I would definitely book this place again if I come to Kyoto.

Near the pleasant Kamo River, and about 15 mins by Metro from Kyoto Station, and then 15 mins on foot. The ryokan itself has a tucked-away feel, though in a mixed residential-commercial area and not far from a main road.

Not a “dislike”, but: Be aware that you must tread carefully, both literally (per sign on wooden staircase), and — ideally — in terms of all-round considerate conduct and probably mode of speech (politeness/indirectness).

It gives a good experience sleeping in a ryokan. The host is nice and friendly and he provided the best recommendations for the best places to eat within the area.
