Bryggen Apartments

We didn’t actually stay at the Bryggen apartments as there had been a flood. Where we stayed was Bryggen Living down the road. It’s was a fabulous place!

Location was fantastic! The showers is massive and the house was well decorated.

The property is misdescribed. For example, the "balcony and terrace" is a dirty, water-flooded roof workplace area adjoining the kitchen that is currently (Sep 2024) in use to store building materials. I did go out there (in boots!), but it is not a place to linger. We could not find the "terrace with mountain views" described in the listing that we had looked forward to enjoying, nor the "24-hour front desk". The apartment is in the midst of building work, with plywood and a baton nailed crudely over main bedroom window that prevent it from opening. Inside it was so hot on the first night (>25°C) that we had to sleep without bedding and with all other windows and doors open (although by turning the thermostat to 0 we were able to catch up on sleep the following night). There are, in addition, no coffee-making facilities (as advertised), only 3 glasses (though plenty of wine glasses), no tea towels or cloths, no bin bags, etc. Some of the kitchenware was dirty when we arrived and the dishwasher was filthy and needs cleaning (we opted not to use it). The owner did not reply to my queries during our stay. In short we felt misled and would certainly not have booked this apartment had it been honestly described.

Location was fantastic. Comfortable beds, spacious bedrooms and really nice bathroom.

This property is advertised as having a roof terrace - in fact there was a locked door which would have opened onto a very unsafe flat roof area with no barrier and which was covered in building materials. There is no outdoor space whatsoever and I wouldn’t have booked the property had I known this. It is lacking some basics such as lamps in the bedrooms, a microwave, blinds in one of the bedrooms, and needs some attention in terms of cleaning and maintenance (the curtain pole in one bedroom was hanging down for example).

The location was superb, close to the Floyen Tram, the Old Historical Section, the Hanseatic Museum and the Fjord Cruises. The beds were awesomely comfortable. We appreciated the inclusion of a washing machine.

We had not anticipated how narrow and steep the stairs up to the apartment were going to be. And the place was undergoing renovation, so there was construction equipment lying around the entry. And some installations were not properly secured.

Quick responses to my inquiries were provided, the property was very clean and the location was very close to restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend this property.

There were building materials in the entryway which made it difficult to get around with our luggage. I'm sure this is a temporary situation.

Apartment could have been cleaner, hair dryer was missing, not enough toilet paper.
