Hills Motor Court & Marina

In my 40+ years of travel this hotel was the biggest disappointment. The review indicated it was recently renovated. I say NO WAY. If it was recently renovated I hate to think what it looked like before. The first room they showed us you could not even close the bathroom door if you were taller than a child. This room also had a window covering that looked into the laundry room--creepy. The towels looked like they were salvaged from a used store and looked more like beach towels. The second room was slightly better and we asked for white towels. There was a view of the water but the room itself was just plain ugly. We changed hotels the next day and for less than we paid here we were able to move to the Bonnie Castle which was 10 times nicer, more of a resort hotel with many amenities.

Last weekend my family consisting of 6 people visited Alexandria Bay and stayed at Hills Motel. We had booked a houseboat and I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience we had. For starters the houseboat was big enough for all of us with very comfortable sleeping. It had a fully stocked kitchen and 2 air conditioners that worked very well. In the morning we sat out on the back and watched the boats on the water. To our surprise a huge ocean freighter went by and the kids were so excited to see that huge boat going by. In the evening we sat on the top deck of the houseboat and watched the sunset. This location has the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. The houseboat is also equipped with plenty of outside patio furniture that we could all sit out and eat our meals. The view is spectacular. The owner, Isaac, and his staff are so friendly and accommodating. Isaac was always coming around to make sure we had everything we needed and he also offered to take us on a boat ride on one of his boats which we did and had so much fun. Staying at Hills was truly a wonderful experience and the houseboat was fabulous. Thank you Isaac and staff for a wonderful weekend. We will back for sure and will recommend this place to all our family and friends.

We have stayed at Hills Motor Court 4 times this year and plan to return again this weekend. Please do not pay attention to bad reviews. This hotel was built in the 1940's and the new owner, Isaac, has updated the rooms with lovely furniture and VERY comfortable beds. While updating the rooms for comfort he has maintained the quaint cabin setting which is so charming. The grounds are well kept and look so beautiful at night all lit up with solar lights. The covered gazebo overlooking the water is spectacular. There is a communal BBQ and we have never had a problem getting our turn to use it. The laundry room on the premises is opened 24 hours and filled with blankets, towels, toilet paper, anything you need which guests can help themselves to. This year they have added houseboats which guests can stay on. These houseboats are very comfortable and I noticed that everyone seemed to want to stay on them. My suggestion to those people that have written bad reviews and complained about everything - next time you should go to the Holiday Inn and then you will get your little shampoo and a hair dryer and you will also pay 3 times as much per night.

This motel has a wonderful location and upon first glance seems charmingly retro...but then reality hits. We were phoned the afternoon of check in to verify our reservation. We told the owner we were 30 to 45 minutes away. This call seemed like a nice touch. When we arrived, completed check in and received our keys, we proceeded to the room. The door was open and it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned and made up from the previous guest. We calmly waited near the dock and enjoyed watching a huge tanker go by. Upon gaining access to the room we noticed the following: nasty stained bedspread, pilled and threadbare sheets, 3 different curtains on the windows, extremely small and rough bath towels, no shampoo/etc, no hair dryer and dead flies/cobwebs on the blinds of the bathroom window. The coup de gras was that the following day our room was not made up or cleaned and no fresh towels!!! I make no disparaging remarks about the size of the rooms because that was expected. The seemingly new furniture was wasted in the half hearted attempt at a remodel. The outside was no better. The grass areas had not been mowed in quite some time, weeds were prevalent in all the planting beds as well as in the cracks at the entryways to the rooms, there was garbage floating in the water by the steps to the pier and the covered seating area had not been swept or the tables wiped. Bottom line...the owner lacks attention to detail. Will not return.

What a Joke. The past owner's were wonderful caring people. Providing a wonderful experience. On the other hand, The new owners have but one thing in mind and that is taking advantage of anyone possible as long as he has your money $ They double book, Lie about dock space and to make matters worse, screw the scheduled arriving guests out of their reservations and dock space to cover his Butt. I have never seen so many upset guests. This is a continuous chain of events. The owner Isaac litters the beautiful view of the river with old broken down house boats that are rented out to customers who arrive believing that they have reserved a beautiful house boat. Only to learn it's a floating roach raft. At one time it was a very relaxing, beautiful place for a family vacation. No longer. Your dealing with the intoxicated guests at the picnic tables and grills all hours and the day and night. They never left allowing others to grill ect. Save yourself the disappointment. There are much better pleases for a family vacation.

What a great little place! It's obvious at first glance that this motel has been here for many years but has been well maintained and the current owners are doing a great job of updating. The location is perfect, walking distance to everything and right on the water for relaxing and taking in the view. The owners and staff are wonderful, so welcoming and helpful. The rooms are compact but very clean and quiet and contained everything we needed for a few nights stay. My retired parents and I stayed 2 nights; in units 6 and 11 (with a very tiny but adequate kitchen). I would definitely stay here again and would certainly recommend to family and friends.
