Rua Beach Resort Sumba

The staff and owners were all nice and accommodating for sure. No complaints there. It's very near to the beach. 2 min walk from the room. They helped us get a rental bike. Breakfast was always nice and professional. From a service and people perspective they are doing everything right.

The issues are the amenities and location. It's located in a remote part of the island, only near 2 other much more expensive hotels. Those hotels are more all inclusive so you don't need to leave but here it just doesn't work well. It's a minimum 30 min drive to have cell signal and buy things. And that drive is over incredibly poor/dangerous and steep roads. I'm used to it. But many people won't be. The hotel area has no cell service, the rooms have no wifi, and only a weak wifi signal is available in the outdoor restaurant. The room also has no TV (cable nor Netflix). So what can you really do? Can't research what to do in the room. No wifi. Can't watch Netflix on your phone at night. No wifi. And going anywhere you need prior research because no signal if you get lost. These are such simple fixes that I truly hope the hotel addresses, because the value add in doing so will be tremendous. We also experienced multiple power outages, but that might just be a 1 time thing. I have no idea if that's a common problem. But think how that further exacerbates the issue. Wake up to a dead phone you left on playing downloaded movies from the resto wifi the prior day to sleep with white noise. Then you wait until you have power. Wait an hour or more to charge. Then bring to resto to research plans or download movies extremely slowly. Once almost dead go back to room to charge some more. Then finally leave on your adventure with only a few hours of daylight left. Sure it's partially poor planning on my part and perhaps not reading all the amenities carefully enough while booking, but speaking of what I can normally expect at this price in 2022, the simple additions of wifi in the rooms and a TV would have made a world of difference and a completely different experience. I do hope they take this suggestion as it's otherwise a very lovely little hotel and 10 times cheaper than the closest competitor.

The kitchen is exceptional, we didnt have even a mediocre meal here. The location is also perfect, on a long empty beach good for swimming.

Très joli endroit bungalow agréable.

Piscine mal entretenue. Nous avons eu des irritations sur la peau et des démangeaisons cat Ph trop haut. Côté nourriture très peu de choix tout est manquant a part le riz et les nouilles. Le cuistot ne sait pas faire à manger. Pour un pays ou il y a des fruits partout même pas de bananes enfin ils ont peu de monde car le personnel n’est pas formé parle a peine l’anglais

Location was extraordinary and staff was behaving perfectly and very polite.

A room was a little bit small and basic.

Very comfortable beds, clean rooms, lovely staff and home made dishes on the menu. We loved our stay at Rua Beach Resort!
