Where do I begin? We got our Expedia VIP Gold member upgrades- wine AND room! The service is first class. Everyone was sooooo nice and helpful!!!! If you can, get the penthouse with the ‘hot tub’. The view is BREATHTAKING! During this season seaweed is plentiful. We were not able to snorkel but that should not be a factor. We took a quick drive down to Akumal beach and another day we walked right next door to the cenote (we kayaked thru the mangroves). I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to anyone! I went with a girl friend not my significant other. It was definitely romantic and I cannot wait to share this place with a SO. My gf got on the paddle board. Water shoes, life vests, snorkel gear and flippers are provided for FREE! So you really do not have to pack snorkel or water shoes (like I did). The food is excellent, fresh and gourmet! The property was easy to find and we felt very safe. Just book it!!!

"Nice if your expectations aren't too high, definitely eat elsewhere. NOT a high end experience"

5.0

The room in general is nice, we loved the privacy and spaciousness of the patio. Be aware that there are 4 rooftop rooms but only three have privacy. In 302 everyone else present from visitors to staff are looking straight at you over a waist high wall. We were in 304 this time (the best of the rooms for view and overall privacy), but 302 is a huge thumbs down for privacy.

on arrival, our room had 2 bath towels and no sun/beach towels, we called the front desk who, rather than offer more towels, asked us to double check and call them back. There was no soap in the bathroom at all - for hands, or shower. There was a decorative tissue on top of the tissue box, pulling it off revealed it was the only tissue. Meaning someone obviously knew there were none left and rather than get a new box, chose to make the last one decorative. After these minor but valid frustrations we decided we'd have a drink, as we'd just arrived. I went to the bar and ordered our drinks which the bartender blended up nice and cold, then before pouring them told me how much they would cost to which I asked can I charge them to my room? He said no and asked if we had just checked in, I told him yes to that so he said he would go check with the front desk. Left for a few minutes and came back, then confirmed that we could NOT charge them to our room. I told him to hold on - that I would go talk to the front desk, which I did, they told me about the policy how I would have to put an extra deposit on the room (which is fine), or just pay every time I came up and down from the room, acting as if any sane guest would choose this. I'm not sure that they understand, but when you are on a vacation, the last thing you want to do is carry your wallet around with you everywhere, and part of the fun of it is the convenience of just being able to ask for a drink or food, sign your name and worry about the bills later. The guy at the front desk finally did offer to sort out my deposit / credit hold But it took foreve, while the drinks were melting in the blender. the bartender followed me up to the room for payment. The part we don't understand is that this is one of three hotels run by the same owner and the experience at Nerea, where we also stayed, was flawless (charging to room etc) Finally, every time we've been there the food is abysmal.

Great for a quiet experience and the room was very nice. Not ideal if you’re looking for proximity to downtown and fine dining, although their restaurants were very good.

"Alea Tulum..secret getaway spot"

10.0

I decided on a unscheduled quick getaway to Tulum. after reviewing hotels in the area, i decided on Alea Tulum...and was extremely happy with my choice. Communication before i arrived was smooth all of my questions and concerns were answered in a timely fashion. I recommend getting set up on WhatsApp for any type of travel..the staff was always courteous and knowledgeable during our conversations. They arranged my airport transfer so i arrived without any problems. Upon arrival i was greeted by Alberto (Beto) at the front desk. He was super helpful getting me checked in and giving me the lay of the land. My room was exactly what i expected. I chose a room with a swim up pool on the balcony, which was so nice to be able to jump in and cool off and basically get out of the pool directly into the suite. that evening i asked about activities, i was on a mission to get into a Cenote'! Beto was on the job and had me booked with an amazing full day tour of Mayan ruins and a couple of Cenote's. Breakfast every morning was awesome..Rafa in the restaurant had my order down pat by day 2! The tuna tostada's and the street tacos was delicious. Alea Tulum is 2 thumbs up!

"A nightmare night stay"

4.0

I was staying in Alea Tulum for one night during a 17 days trip in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. It was definitely one of the most expensive hotels I stayed in during this trip, so the disappointment from my stay here was even greater. The hotel itself is beautiful, architecturally and setting wise. The views are great, the rooms are specious and clean. Unfortunately, I experienced several inconveniences and unsatisfactory services that did not allow me to enjoy those features and in fact, my stay at Alea was a total nightmare. Due to an apparent electricity interruption, which according to the maintenance and front desk personal I spoke with, are quite often, the air conditioning in the room stop working and could not maintain a comfortable temperature and humidity level (over 30 degrees and high humidity level), resulting in a restless and uncomfortable night's sleep. In addition, no electrical outlet or utility in the room was working preventing the use of TV, Coffee Machine, Fridge etc. More so, there was no WiFi service, and I could not charge any of the electrical devices I had including phone, earphones, battery packs etc. which impacted my ability to use them the next day. After a sweaty, hot and restless night a reasonable breakfast would have been nice. Unfortunately, that was not going to happen as well - no hot service, and most importantly - no coffee during breakfast. As this seems as a common issue, one can expect a warning message on the website to notify potential guests of the possible conditions they might face and in accordance with the hotel standard, one would expect they will have an alternative source of energy that can provide their guests with the services they should provide as a reputed establishment. I waited with this review for 2 month, approaching the hotel numerous times for comments and for a chance to make good on a bad situation by providing some kind of an apology and a compensation for the inconvenience caused during my stay, due to the lack of most services they have said to provide. Unfortunately, until now, no response has been received from the hotel, or their management, and needless to say that my expectations that they will promptly address this matter and provide an appropriate response, were left unanswered. Good hotel is not just about nice room and beautiful view. It's first and foremost about customer service. Mostly, that being determined by how you are dealing with problems and with unexpected situations that impact your customers. The test is not IF you will have problems - that is almost a given any business - but rather HOW you deal with them once occurred. Alea Tulum has tremendously failed that test, and performed miserably to correct it. I would highly suggest not to stay there. There are so many other options in Tulum, with the same view but with a much better service.

This property is one of our favorites in the area. It allows you to have close proximity to the beach and snorkeling. Although this beach is beautiful in different ways, it does not have clear white sand with no rocks, and that is understandable since the reef is located in front of it. Perfect for snorkeling! The amount of sea weed aka sargasso, is not under the control of any property owners in the peninsula, but with that said, and the fact that a hurricane had just passed through, it was in great shape. My husband and I really love the calm, relaxed vibe that this area provides. The food is always great and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. My only dissatisfaction is that the fridges in the rooms do not keep the beverages cold. But some ice and a foam cooler took care of that problem and I hardly find that reason to complain much since they provided the ice. Overall if you are looking for a vacation place to get disconnected from the rat race of the city life, this is it!!! But if you want to be close to bus routes and public transportation, or a mall and the night club seen, unfortunately your taxi is about a 10 minute walk down a dirt road. If you rent a car there is parking though. So this place is perfect if you want peace and quiet on the beach away from the city.

Everything was so perfect. The only problem I had was the things that I need like in bathroom there’s no body wash, toothpaste and handwash this is my first time going to hotel that’s not complete especially in the bathroom. Anyway thank you I enjoyed staying here. Definitely go back and please make sure everything was complete.

The staff of this hotel are more than accommodating and super nice in all areas of the hotel. Note: The road to the hotel is a major limitation. The road is actually quite dangerous and some taxes refused to provide full service. Even going to town and back is a major dilemma with that road If you have children or people in your party, who are injured or can’t stand a major beating on a road, please go somewhere else
