Alea Tulum

Truly a lovely experience from the accommodations to the hospitality and location. I loved the privacy of the swim up suite! The hotel is on the beach, which is very walkable and natural. You’re surrounded by nature! I have every intention of returning to Hotel Alea Tulum

Excellent quiet friendly hotel nestled in a small cove on tge edge of the jungle to the south of Cancun. Staff were most helpful and very courteous. The small beach was rocky but the sunbeds were located on decking with good sun protection and easy access to the beach.

Avoid This place like the plague ! We booked last minute on Expedia so we had to pre-pay. What a mistake! I can’t believe people rate this crappy place this highly. For starters, you drive 1 mile down a dirt road that is badly damaged. I thought it was going to damage the rental car. We asked for our money back immediately after arriving and touring the property, but they would not give us our money back. The view was decent and the room was decent, but everything else was terrible. The safe was broken. The hot tub was broken. The pool was freezing and dirty. We booked a swim up room on purpose because we love to get in and out of the water but that didn’t happen. The beach was also gross with algae and seaweed. There was also a rock shelf that went out for about 100 yards that made it dangerous to walk out. Other properties in the area had built a dock where you could swim out past the rocks.. This property did not. Most of the outside dining chairs were also broken. There aren’t any sidewalks or street lights either. The electricity went out on the fourth day, alll day, of our six day stay and so we left on the fifth and they even refused to give us one day credit. The only redeeming factor was the food was very good and so was the service— only of the weight staff. The front desk personnel and management were terrible. Also a margarita was $17 as they have you captive.

The dirt road for a mile is a complete disaster and I was afraid to drive on it. This means you are pretty isolated and they overcharge for everything Almost everything in the hotel is broken and in ill repair. You cannot swim from the beach because the rock shelf goes out for about 100 yards and is covered in algae. The hot tub, safe, chairs, kayaks etc were all broken.

The staff were excellent. This hotel is perfect for getting away from the world.

Oceanfront was great. Pool, was great.

The location was pretty inconvenient. The dirt road out to the hotel was in bad shape and the taxi drivers were very put off by driving out there because of it, often charging more because of it. AC did not work very well. They were also out of a lot of things, water, food options. Respectfully would not repeat a stay.

The room was large and well equipped. The breakfasts were delicious and varied. Nice hotel area - swimming pool, sunbeds, although the beach is very narrow.

You can’t fault the view – it was fabulous! We booked a room on the ground floor with a swim up pool; we were in Room 5 for four days. The swim up pool provided to be very interesting, as guests in the room next door were able to swim right up to your room – there was no privacy as you can actually see in the rooms either side. This room was also located very close to the restaurant which can be very noisy going late and starting up early. We elected to stay here for a four-day break in our travels, get our washing done etc. However, there was NO laundry service; and nowhere to wash and dry your own clothes. While spacious, the room was very basic. Anytime you purchased a drink at the bar or ate in the restaurant you had to pay then and there. Therefore you had to always have money or a card with you. We also found the prices outrageous. The beach was nothing to write home about with lots of rocks and seaweed. The cab fare into Tulum was very expensive. (We were quoted $100 US!) Therefore you are very isolated if you don’t have a car. Overall our stay was over- priced and underserviced. Do your research, look elsewhere. For the money we paid, including drinks and meals. I feel we could have done better elsewhere.

Service was great

Showers had no water pressure at all. Some had no hot water. House was very dirty (spilled sticky stuff in the fridge) one night when it rained water leaked in.
