"Very relaxing location outside of Olympia"

8.0

Heron House is a B&B facility just outside of Olympia. The B&B is located on Sunrise Beach Road, which is a very quiet road next to the Eld Inlet. The B&B is at the top of a moderately steep hill and there is a gravel parking area across the driveway. The log cabin B&B is accessible via several stairs, so people with disabilities should keep this in mind. Heron House is very well appointed and extremely relaxing. Heron House is a two story log cabin with a small patio area to one side that offers a partial view of the water through the beautiful trees that are throughout the property. The well appointed kitchen and bathroom/shower are downstairs and the sleeping area is upstairs in a loft style (i.e. the upper sleeping area looks over the main room) and is accessible via a wooden staircase. The stairs appear to be hand crafted and are beautifully done. As with anything handmade, the stairs are unique and not all the same size or angle. Those with balance issues or anyone prone to clumsiness should take note. The owners thoughtfully put a light under the stairs to illuminate them at night – we never felt it was an issue when it was lit up. Downstairs, there are several extremely comfortable seating areas, including a very large couch, and a large screen TV. The only issue we noted with the TV was that many of the channels weren’t accessible, but were still showing on the channel guide. It was a little frustrating that they were showing but unwatchable. The Wi-Fi was easily accessible. We loved that breakfast was already waiting for us on arrival! Not having to wait to eat was nice and we appreciated the thought the owners had put in. We were a little disappointed in that the website made reference to relaxing on the beach listening to the waves in that we thought it meant Heron House was on the water, but this isn’t the case. It’s actually at the top of the property, but the beach and grassed area behind (presumably) the owner’s house are easily accessible. You can see the water, but the view is through the trees. Heron House was a very pleasant location and although we were only there one night, we enjoyed it.

"Rustic Elegance"

10.0

We loved our experience staying in the Heron House, one of two accommodations operated by the Eld House. This rustic, yet elegant cabin in the woods had everything you could need for a peaceful, relaxing retreat. From the lofted bedroom area, we were treated to a beautiful view of Eld Inlet through the trees, while enjoying the most luxurious, comfortable bed we've ever slept in. The fresh fruit, muffins & cereal were a lovely light breakfast. We appreciated the opportunity to sleep in, eat when we wanted & take a stroll on the quiet beach. It was a perfect way to enjoy some private time.

"Extremely Pleasant Stay"

10.0

Chris was an outstanding host for us. The house is very comfortable, and the setting is beautiful. It's not really a B&B, but Chris does put out some great snacks for the morning. This is a great option if you are looking for a quiet and private place, and I think he has another little house further up the hill that's even more private and quiet.

"Great little cabin in the woods"

10.0

We stayed two nights - I could have stayed a week to relax, enjoy the beach of the Eld Inlet (southern end of Pungent Sound), and relax some more. We stayed in the Heron House, a recently completed cabin. It worked well for my wife and I - we were there by ourselves, and I think it's pretty much laid out for just two people. Note that the one bedroom is upstairs in a loft area (open to downstairs area); the one bathroom, kitchen and living area are downstairs. Kitchen was comfortably appointed - full size refrigerator, sink, microwave, and small toaster oven. No oven or cook top. They do provide an electric grill that worked fine for us - we cooked bacon and scrambled eggs each morning. Fresh fruit, milk, tea, and coffee were provided. This was a great get away for us. We really liked it.

"Clean, comfortable, and good value"

10.0

My wife and I stayed at the Eld House two nights in January 2014. An incredibly beautiful spot. It was very quiet and peaceful. The place was much roomier than I expected, with a separate bedroom. Lots of paperbacks to read. Because of the season we didn't try to take advantage of the kayaks they have available. It's about 15 minutes from downtown Olympia. There is a small grocery store, a gas station, and a seafood food stand nearby, but that's about it.

"Peaceful"

10.0

Stayed at the Heron House with my daughter. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - unfortunately only one night. Would love to return! The owners are very kind and thoughtful. The cabin was spotless. The bed very comfortable! The views were awesome! It is so quiet and peaceful. Town of Olympia was just a short drive away. There are kayaks available - would have liked to try them out if we had more time.

"Heron House - Log cabin"

8.0

I just stayed at the Heron House for one day, but it was great! I really liked having the whole place to myself. Its a really unique log cabin, up the hill from the main house. It is perfect for one or 2 people.

"Really great place to stay near Olympia"

8.0

Stayed here for a few nights while visiting some friends. The Eld House is a separate unit from the owners' home and you get a fantastic view out onto the Eld Inlet. The unit is very spacious. The bathroom only has a shower but everything is well kept, tidy, and clean. When you arrive there is a selection of dry cereals, milk, muffins and fruit waiting for you for your breakfasts. Chris and Jennifer are friendly hosts but leave you to your space if you desire. We took the kayaks out one morning and happened upon a harbor seal that was curious about our presence. We also got to witness the oyster seeding operation that occurs in the Inlet. You're close to Olympia but also isolated enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area. Would definitely recommend this place!!!

"Relaxing Retreat"

10.0

My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at the Eld House. As other reviewers noted, the cottage was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped—it also was roomier than I expected. I'd have no problem bringing our two kids next time, although there is only one bathroom & no bathtub. I think it just depends on what you’re comfortable with and how much privacy you need. Jennifer was very friendly and accommodating. When we didn’t have the right shoes for kayaking, she lent us a pair of her own (Please note-- if you plan to kayak, bring a pair of water shoes that will stay on. The sand by the shoreline would have sucked our flip flops right off, and there were too many sharp shells & rocks to be able to go barefoot.) The cottage is above a workshop close to the main house & the grounds are shared with the family home; however we found we still had the privacy we wanted. Longs walks on the gravelly beach, a gorgeous view and a convenient location just minutes from the state capitol all made this a place to remember
