Everything was nice.

Not the cleanest place I’ve been to, has a lot of drug activity going on! But that’s my opinion no proof, we are smokers so was glad they had smoking rooms, the young lady at the front desk was very kind.

I have stayed here dozens of times. It's a great motel if you're on a budget. There are certainly cheaper motels in Athens, but those scare me. The Highlander is in a nice spot in Athens near a bike path and between a coffee shop and a popular hotdog stand. It's a long walk to "downtown" Athens but doable if. This is not the Ritz. You are getting what you pay for. The floors may be squishy at spots, but they are clean floors. Beds are nice. The water pressure from the showers is actually impressive--so that's a plus. This is a popular motel with construction contractors doing work somewhere near Athens. I almost always see a few construction trucks and vans every time I stay here. This place is family owned and they seem to take pride in their work with limited means. If you want to stay in Athens for cheap, stay here.

Big dirt bike race in town —The John Penton GNCC— had every hotel in town full. The Highlander was a simple, spartan, elegant solution. Would do it again. Considering the cost, 4.5 of 5 stars! 90 of 100! Thanks

I booked this because the reviews said it was clean and it definitely was not! Upon checking in we noticed that the property was a little run down but hey it got great reviews online so I paid for the room and got my key. Upon entering we noticed that the cable box looked like it had caught fire, the drywall didn’t even meet in the corner and was covered in dirty smudge marks and there were fluid stains on the bed covering. No way could we sleep there! I went back to the office where the clerk was kind and offered us 2 more rooms to look at but both were equally as dirty. When I told her I was sorry that we just couldn’t sleep in those conditions she refused to cancel the transaction and I ended up having to pay the full rate even though we didn’t stay. Very disappointing experience

I usually stay in this motel but lately, towels are dingy and looking warn out. Also not enough soap or any tea bags

The room was perfectly fine for one night but we did not make it one night as the environment became unsafe after dark.

Cheap and functional. Rundown but clean. Owners pleasant. Great location for Ohio University.

Bathroom clean but room light switches had visible dirt as well as sides of doors from peoples hands. Some towels were quite worn. Appreciated the room fridge which was also clean. Friendly staff made nice dinner recommendations.
