"Awful experience"

2.0

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Can’t believe love holidays still have it on their website. Rooms are dirty, mouldy, no restaurant or bar. Carpet was soaking wet. When we complained we were told it was fully booked to find out later it was not. Locals said it had become very run down in past few months due to change of ownership. We were to stay 3 nights but left after 1 and booked into premier inn down the road due to the hotel conditions and the horrendous noise. First time I have ever complained about a hotel

"Clean, safe, friendly welcoming staff"

10.0

Felt incredibly safe and looked after, went out till the early hours of the morning with friends and was welcomed in by night staff who were professional and chivalrous. Room was clean and bed was so comfy, great shower with good pressure and a fully stocked tea station to nurse the hangover the following morning. As a young lady staying on my own I had a lot of people trying to scare me with rumours about this hotel but my experience was lovely and I will definitely stay again and recommend it to my friends.

"Run down hotel, but good for low-cost stay"

6.0

If you are on a strict budget and just need a bed, this place is unbeatable. However, it is very run-down and in desperate need of a refurbishment—expect to see worn carpets, scuffed walls, and outdated furniture. We stayed 3 nights, stairs were tired-looking. Filthy. Our room had dust on the windowsill and in corners. Spiderwebs. The carpet felt as had not been vacuumed. Walls had lots of scuff marks. Coffee mark on the coffee table. Overall the room felt neglected rather than freshly cleaned. The stairs to our room were dusty, dirty, the hoover in the corner was there for three days, and the hoover didn't move. Day one, we asked to be moved to a better room but apparently all were sold out, it was fine for us and reflected the low price. If you don't mind a lack of luxury, it’s fine. You get what you pay for approx £52 per night. The location and price were superb, which is why we didn't complain more. Bed was comfy and clean, bathroom had water marks, not deep cleaned as expected. I'm glad I had antibacterial wipes with me so I could clean all myself. But be warned: the hotel is quite run-down (scuff marks, outdated). Definitely needs a refurb to improve the aesthetic, but great for a low-cost stay.

"Better than a hostel"

4.0

It seems a little unfair to give a poor review to a hotel on the seafront when they charge £26 per night. Encouraged by some recent positive experiences, and a location that suited me, I gave this place a try rather than the Premier Inn. It was just about OK. What I found was that it was just plain odd. The rooms are accessed through a restaurant that appears to have been abandoned. Once into the stairwell and corridors, the senses are assaulted by a combination of vomit-inducing wallpaper and silver carpets that are in urgent need of a deep clean. Outside the door to my room was what I thought was a fungal fruiting body, but which turned out to be a floral glass ornament placed on the carpet without any apparent purpose other than to pose a trip hazard. The communal areas are somewhat battered and once inside the room, there was a lot of noise from those spaces. Rooms are accessed via a combination code that is supposed to be sent to you on the day of arrival. Mine never showed up. The door didn’t feel very secure and it fitted poorly as there was a lot of light coming through the gap between the door and frame. The room was pretty cold and the bathroom particularly so. An oil filled radiator is provided with a tower fan to control temperature. I used neither out of fear for my safety. The room was better than the communal spaces. It was acceptably clean, although the tired bathroom had some black mould and poor attention to the sanitary ware in some areas. I had a sea view room with a balcony. It was still winter so I didn’t venture out, but had I done so, I would have had to use a flaking metal chair with only one usable arm. The view over the beach is lovely as long as you ignore all the other horrid structures along the seafront. Everything worked out, the staff tried to be cheerful and helpful although I struggled with the concept of paying £10 to leave my car on the chaotic hard standing outside the building. I realised in daylight that one of the front windows was smashed. The parking area itself is also easily blocked by people parking (legally) in the street next to the hotel. If you have to stay in Newquay and you’re on a very tight budget, this place is acceptable. You’ll get your own room for the price of a bed in a hostel. However, if you’re looking for something cosy and familiar, just book the Premier Inn. One pet hate is being press ganged to provide a positive review on leaving a property. The proprietor, whilst friendly and cheerful applied a little too much pressure for my liking. I didn’t feel comfortable enough to express my thoughts at that moment.

"OYO Newquay Beach Hotel - Awful experience"

2.0

My first impression of the OYO Newquay Beach Hotel was not good, the two pairs of sliding doors into reception were not working and had to be pulled shut holding the glass, and so it was freezing because of the icy sea wind. I noticed that one of the downstairs windows was broken too. The area next to reception clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time as the debris from a Valentines celebration was still strewn about the place. I was shown to my room up a couple of dingy carpeted stairways that hadn't been vacuumed in quite a while. At the top of the stairs near my room was more evidence of the Valentines party, with confetti and semi-deflated balloons scattered about the place. My impression wasn't improved on entering the room, which was freezing although they had supplied a plug-in radiator.  The quilt was very slim, more of a summer quilt, so I had to turn the heating right up to keep warm.  The towels supplied for the bathroom were dirty and there was no covering at the window which, although frosted, didn't hide much with the light on! As they hadn't mentioned breakfast during check-in I went back to reception to enquire what time the dining room opened in the morning, only to be told that they no longer provide a breakfast service. The booking however clearly stated "bed & Breakfast". When I pointed this out, I was told I could go across the road to another hotel and pay for breakfast there! I said this wasn't acceptable and the manager just said they would make a refund after I checked out. I pointed out all of these faults when I checked out next morning and the manager seemed really surprised. I checked out the next day as I couldn't possibly stay for the next two days as planned.

"WORST EXPERIENCE EVER"

2.0

Truly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. We were made to move from Room 30 to Room 6, which was significantly smaller, with no balcony or sea view, and no refund or price adjustment was offered. The original room smelt strongly of marijuana and cigarettes, which is completely unacceptable. What followed was genuinely terrifying. A man staying one room away was hanging around our car and threatened to chop our heads off. During our stay, police arrived and raided the hotel. We felt unsafe the entire time. I asked on the night for a refund and was told by multiple staff members it could take 7–14 days. The very next day, I was told “sorry for the inconvenience” and that nothing could be done, making it clear we were just an issue they wanted to brush aside. I’m in the process of looking to move to the area and was testing accommodation options, this was by far the worst. The hotel is chaotic, misleadingly advertised, and nowhere near the standard shown online. We would have been far better off staying at the Premier Inn 3 places up, where safety and quality are guaranteed! If unsatisfied a refund process is nowhere near as hard as this. I am requesting a full refund for both rooms. The handling of this situation has been nothing short of dismissive and disappointing. Avoid at all costs. Also forgot to mention the sanity of the room! There were fab nubs over the floor. Mud up the stairs. The glass of the hotel had a fully cracked glass. Just absolutely disgusting.

"Poor"

4.0

This is my third time staying at this hotel, but this time I got a room with blood or ketchup stains on the carpet and walls....in addition to all that, when I returned from a walk, I was stopped by the receptionist and told that I was being evicted from the room because in his opinion my reservation time had expired (although it was supposed to expire the next day)....my backpack was brought to the reception, where my personal belongings were thrown in along with open food products (a package of cheese, bread, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.)..........I was shocked.......when I returned to the room, I found the door open and it was already being cleaned by hotel worker

"No longer 4 star hotel"

6.0

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman at reception - we paid the 10-pound fee for parking per day and were taken to our room. We had booked a Deluxe room with a sea view. The room we were shown into was tiny; it had the most minimal sea view, which was mostly covered by buildings and was not like what we had booked. The room only had one water glass, not two, used items on the tea tray and stuff marks on the bedding. We told reception, who rightly moved us into the actual room we had booked. This was much better, and the view is incredible. The wardrobe is broken, and again the amenities were not quite right in terms of barely filled tea trays, body wash, and no toilet roll, but all very fixable. That evening, we were excited to eat in-house at the restaurant that looked great, only to be told that it and the subsequent bar are not open and will not be during our stay. It does not state this on any website, and we were not made aware upon arrival. I find this to be very annoying as it is a big factor in booking the hotel. The road noise is not too bad; however, the cleaners are very loud in the morning. The doors lock on codes, which the man at reception watched us enter. If another guest does not lock their door properly, their door will continuously beep until staff intervene. We found this out the hard way one morning. The beds are clean and mildly comfortable, but this is certainly no longer a 4-star hotel - it looks desolate, which I understand for the time of year buy it is not helped by the unopened bar and restaurant. Although the staff are helpful, they are simply not knowledgeable enough to be in such a business. They could not even provide us with two champagne flutes one evening, despite it stating 'room service' on the website! And I do not think the rooms are worth the money unless brought under discounts - at no point were we offered any money back or anything such as a discounted night regarding the misfortunes that occurred during our stay. I cannot comment on breakfast; however, the menu left in our room was for another hotel close by. Sadly, this is no longer the Hotel it used to be, according to previous reviews.
