We liked the open air onsen in our room. The room was neat and clean .

The public onsen was closed for most of the day . (10-3) The lounge was also closed for most of the day (10-3 each day) considering this was one of the most expensive hotels I have ever stayed at , I was disappointed by this.

Loved the authentic ryokan experience — sleeping on futons, the calm atmosphere, and the connection to nature. The onsen was relaxing and a highlight of the stay, and the traditional hospitality made the experience feel warm and personal.

The location was not very convenient, especially without a car, and the hotel itself felt a bit outdated compared to expectations.

Excellent service especially from Loan on the front desk. She had excellent English and helped with all our tricky requests.

Amazing location, not too far of a walk from the closest train station. The staff were welcoming and tended to our needs with great care and attention. Wonderful experience overall and had a private onsen to enjoy whenever we wanted.

The location was a little challenging, but it wasn’t too long of a taxi ride from the village, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Our stay at Hatago Kintoen Ryokan in Hakone was one of the absolute highlights of our trip—and easily one of our favourite experiences, especially as part of our honeymoon. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were truly outstanding. Each meal was beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared, making both evenings and mornings feel like special occasions. These dining experiences were a real highlight and something we’ll remember for a long time. Having a private onsen on our balcony was incredibly special. It was such a relaxing and intimate experience, and the perfect way to unwind while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The ryokan itself was full of thoughtful touches, and the staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay. The location is a short walk from Hakone station, which is convenient, though it can be a bit tricky if you’re travelling with large suitcases. That said, it’s a small trade-off for such a wonderful stay. We planned ahead for this and only brought our backpacks with us. We also loved wearing the traditional yukatas, which added to the overall cultural experience. Overall, Hatago Kintoen is a truly special place, combining incredible food, warm hospitality, and a memorable ryokan experience. We would highly recommend it, especially for a romantic getaway.
