Philadelphia Marriott Old City

Perfect for a short getaway — clean, quiet, and excellent service.

The location is fantastic, you really can't beat it as far as proximity to the historical area, as well as highway access to and from the city.

The building has been plagued by HVAC issues forever. My room had no working heat on this stay, which was unsurprising considering my past stays. They should rip the HVAC out and start fresh.

Couple reasons why we had a bad visit here: -The hotel is incredibly noisy late into the night because of the people at the bar on the first floor. -The coffee creamer in the room was curdled. -When I tried to check in at midnight after a wedding, they wouldn’t let me into the room because I didn’t have my husband’s ID on me. -They never gave us the “welcome bag” that the wedding party gave out to guests.

My husband and I have been staying at Mariotts for a long time. We decided for our 15 year wedding anniversary to stay at this hotel b/c our wedding reception was held there. So we wanted to relive our wonderful day. Back then, it was the Sheraton Society Hill. I called the Front Desk 3 times around 9:30-10pm in the evening for some toiletries. No answer and it kept ringing. I then called the Marriott 800 number and the rep also tried calling the hotel. No answer. So, I decided to walk downstairs to the Front Desk. I explained I tried calling 3 times within a 30 min period and no answer. The Front Desk male attendant was very cavalier and said we were just really busy a minute ago. I told him I don’t expect this lack of service from Marriott. He had no response. The best employee there was DENISE. My husband met her at the Club Lounge. She surprised us by sending us a charcuterie plate and Pellegrinos. Although the gesture was small, she should get a raise and work at the Front Desk! DENISE IS THE STAR AND REPRESENTS MARRIOTT HOSPITALITY.

The location of the hotel was good for the historical things we wanted to see while visiting. We did have issues with the hot water 3 out of 4 mornings when in the middle of a shower there was NO hot water! It was not at the typical "busy" time in the morning either. Front desk employee was very nice in the AM when we informed her of the problem, the one in the afternoon definitely had more of an attitude with questions we had. The morning we at breakfast at the "restaurant", we were charged $24/person for the typical buffet breakfast many hotels offer for FREE. I will probably look for a different hotel for my next stay...I wasn't that impressed for the nightly rate.

Proximity from old town was great.
