Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa

Great atmosphere, service, rooms were updated (recommend upgrading to a suite). Views were amazing. Food was mostly great! Albeit expensive, but you know that going into it. We were seriously happy with our stay! so many fun things for the kiddos to do. And enough things for adults to do too.

Overall, my family and I were very happy with this hotel. We usually stay at the Westin or the Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach, but the Westin recently stopped honoring lounge access for Titanium members. Since Marriott’s terms clearly state that lounge access is included, we won’t be returning there. In contrast, the Hyatt did honor lounge access for Globalist members, which we were able to enjoy during our stay. Breakfast in the lounge was excellent, with eggs, fresh fruit, pastries, and daily options like pancakes or French toast. The evening happy hour offerings changed each day and included items like meatballs, coconut shrimp, orange chicken with rice, and empanadas with mac and cheese. While some of the food seemed like it may have been sourced from Costco, it was still substantial, kid-friendly, and worked well as a light dinner. Beer and wine were around $5–6, and mixed drinks were about $8. Our room was very clean, spacious, and well laid out. The bathroom had a bathtub rather than a walk-in shower, which felt a bit dated. We were upgraded to a beautiful ocean-view room in the center building, and the view was truly amazing. The penguins in the lobby were a fun touch, and the birds throughout the property added to the atmosphere. The pool area was another highlight. The pools were warm (especially compared to the Sheraton’s unheated pool), and the water slide was fantastic. The jacuzzi was nice as well, though it could have been slightly hotter. One downside is that the pool area is now split into two sections due to the expansion of the sushi restaurant. One important note: be sure to return your pool towels to the towel dispensing machines before evening. We were unexpectedly charged $275 after bringing the towels back to our room one night instead of returning them right away. This policy was not clearly explained at check-in. Apparently, each towel has a tracking chip and is logged when removed and again when returned. The fee felt excessive and unnecessary, especially given the lack of clear communication. The biggest drawback of the property is the beach. It is very narrow—only about 10 feet wide between the water and the hotel grounds—so we had to walk a bit to find a better spot for swimming and relaxing. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would definitely return.

This is my third stay at this property and overall it's very nice but still not a 5 star property. Mind you, I wouldn't feel this way if the standard room I was staying in was not $800 (base plus fees), but that is the case, thus no 5th star. Pros: - Rooms - Updated and very well done. The bed is comfortable and the bathrooms are large and easily accommodate two people. (con below) - Food and Beverage - Very good. We ate at the breakfast buffet as well as the sushi restaurant and steak house. All were exceptional and overall the pricing was fair for Hawaii. - People - The people that work here are incredibly nice and always willing to help out with anything. - Gym - Well equipped and clean. - Pool - The pro is it's very warm and very large (con below) Cons: - Room location - When you pay upwards of $1k per night after fees, getting a room with zero privacy and no view on the first floor is tough. If it wasn't a quick trip with friends and a longer trip with my wife I would have pushed for something better. - Poolside service - If you don't go up to the bar or sit in the eating area, service feels sparse and basically non-existent. - Pool renovation - I'm still upset they got rid of the grotto, waterfalls and pool bar? Also, if you're going to get rid of such a large area, consider shallowing out the remaining pool. It's WAY too deep and forces people to crowd into the shallow area. Similar to my previous reviews of this property, it's a nice example of a Hyatt Regency with good food offerings and nicely appointed rooms, but it's pricey for a 4-star hotel. Would I stay here again, yes, due to proximity to Kapalua and Lahaina, but for the price we may look elsewhere

Nice. They use the same sheets everyday for housekeeping service. They do not clean bathroom shower area or vacuum. Yoga canceled even when there was open areas to use. Breakfast over priced for what it is. $50. per person.

We were looking forward to beautiful grounds, the ocean, a stimulating conference and an anniversary (also SuperBowl). But the power company turned power off and we were stranded in the darkness, with lines to get (not free) water and charge our devices. Cold showers. So, not ideal, we were hostages. We cut our trip short.

Good location for a conference. Great view of the sea and watching whales from the balcony was a truly amazing experience

Vacation was severely affected due to weather, however, The Hyatt really should have tried a little harder to accommodate its patrons especially when power was out for 24 hours.

My husband and I have been coming to this hotel for over 40 years, appreciating its overall ambiance and landscaping. Upon arrival this year we were met with an abomination where the grotto used to be. One of the highlights of our visits over the years was indeed the beautiful grotto… now demolished, and replaced with an ugly tall white wall next to the pool where the beautiful lava waterfall leading into the grotto used to be. We loved the grotto and we had many memories with it with our children as well. The grotto set this hotel apart from all others… now the pool area looks like it could be Palm Springs in a most unflattering way. We will think twice about returning.

This hotel is situated in a prime location, with stunning views (highlight of the stay) and easy access to the surrounding area and hotels. Our room was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. The lanai was on the smaller side but our ocean front view allowed us to watch the whales all day. The staff were consistently friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. I was a speaker for a conference held at this location---I was extremely happy with the meeting setup and the hotel AV staff. The restaurant, Japanga, was hands down one of the best meals on our trip. That said, there were a few drawbacks that impacted the overall experience. The lack of a restaurant (not the pool bar) serving lunch on-site was inconvenient, especially during the inclement weather we experienced for 4 days. The only bar available was located in the pool area, which limited options—especially in the day/evening when you may want to enjoy the view from a different location or during bad weather. Additionally, the open-air lobby, while attractive in theory, was impossible to enjoy due to rain and wind, making it impractical as a place to sit and relax. No one can control the weather but a remodel would rectify some of these issues. Overall, this is a lovely hotel with excellent service and an outstanding location. With a few improvements to dining and indoor common spaces, it could easily be an exceptional stay.
